Senior Network Engineer (MCG)
Job Description
We are looking for a Senior Network Engineer that will support, co-ordination, configuration, installation, and management of all networks, including LAN, WAN, Wireless, Datacentre, and related client services with the enterprise. Part of the support deliverable is managing and supporting Riverbed appliances and SD WAN services. Responsible for implementing and maintaining network architectures. Responsible for identification and resolution of hardware and software technical problems and malfunctions related to network and related servers. Make decisions that are critical in the areas of throughput analysis, problem solving, and infrastructure planning, with the potential to affect the successful execution of business transactions. Proactively research and locate necessary tools and processes to identify and proactively avert troublesome trends as they develop. Ensure a stable performance environment for the enterprise communication system. Participates in various IT projects intended to continually improve/upgrade the telecommunications infrastructure.
Core responsibilities:

Provide configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of Riverbed SD-WAN solutions

Perform policy updates on Riverbed and configuration changes as per business requirements

Provide wireless network support, including configuration, monitoring, and issue resolution for Cisco WLAN solutions.

Manage and troubleshoot Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) for network access control and policy enforcement.
-
Manage and maintain Cisco LAN infrastructure, including core, distribution, and access layer switches.
-
Troubleshoot and resolve network issues related to VLANs, spanning tree, routing, and switching.
-
Perform regular network performance monitoring and capacity planning.

Maintain and optimize Cisco DNA Center (DNAC) for automation, assurance, and network analytics.

Administer and maintain Exinda WAN optimization appliances for bandwidth management.

Troubleshoot latency and congestion issues affecting network efficiency

Provide reports and insights on network usage and application performance
-
Assist Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) for data centre networking when required
-
Assist with troubleshoot connectivity, security, and performance issues in ACI fabric.
Key responsibilities:
-
Assist with war room sessions for critical P1/P2 incidents to ensure swift resolution.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams (network, security, applications) to identify root causes and implement fixes.

Provide real-time incident updates to stakeholders and ensure proper documentation of troubleshooting steps.
-
Act as the primary escalation point for issues requiring 3rd party intervention

Engage with service providers (e.g., Telkom, Seacom, NTT Data, Absa) to ensure efficient troubleshooting and resolution.

Track and follow up on escalated issues to ensure they are resolved within agreed SLAs
-
Prepare and document change requests (CRs) for network and infrastructure modifications.

Present proposed changes to Change Advisory Board (CAB) for approval.

Maintain and update hardware inventory records for network devices, including Cisco equipment.

Track warranty and support contracts to ensure timely renewals and coverage.

Compile and present monthly infrastructure updates to clients, detailing key network changes.

Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for major network outages and performance issues.

Track and ensure the implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to mitigate future incidents
Educational Qualifications
-
CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional)
-
Riverbed Certified Solutions Associate (RCSA) or Riverbed Certified Solutions Professional (RCSP) preferred.
-
Cisco Certified Specialist – ISE would be an advantage.

Cisco Certified Specialist – ACI would be an advantage

F5 Certified BIG-IP Administrator (F5-CA) or higher-level F5 certifications beneficia

Advanced knowledge of enterprise networking solutions, including complex routing, switching, and troubleshooting.

Expertise in implementing and optimizing Cisco technologies for large-scale networks
-
Hands-on experience with Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) and Identity Services Engine (ISE) for network security
-
Knowledge of WAN optimization, SD-WAN, and network performance management.

Expertise in F5 load balancing, security, and traffic management solutions
Years of Experience:
-
5 – 10 Years as a Network Engineer
Other requirements:

Proven ability to design, implement, and maintain enterprise IT infrastructure• Ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.

In-depth knowledge of LAN/WAN, routing & switching, firewalls, load balancers, and wireless technologies.

Understanding of network monitoring tools, automation frameworks, and cloud networking

Ability to plan, execute, and oversee infrastructure projects from initiation to completion.

Experience in working with cross-functional teams and managing project timelines.

Strong ability to interact with technical teams, business stakeholders, and external vendors.
-
Skilled in documenting and presenting technical information clearly and concisely.

Capable of handling high-pressure situations, such as incident war rooms and escalations.
