Join us as our new Senior Department Manager for our Fermentation Technology department in R&D

You will lead a department with 16 dedicated scientists and research associates and be part of the Leadership Team in the Production Strain Technology (PST). The department focus is on developing and optimizing fermentation processes and technologies for our production strains being developed by colleagues in PST. The department covers our main expression host systems in Novonesis: Aspergillus, Trichoderma, and Bacillus, and it is the responsibility of the Fermentation Technology department to ensure state-of-the-art fermentation processes for these host systems. This all happens in close collaboration with the rest of PST as all work is carried out in cross-disciplinary agile teams.

Welcome to Production Strain Technology in Enzyme, Protein & Strain Engineering, R&D

In PST we develop and use state-of-the-art expression technology to make high-yielding production strains in microbial hosts. PST consists of five departments that are divided into cross-disciplinary agile teams, and we collaborate closely with strain engineering colleagues globally and with e.g., Molecular Discovery and our Fermentation Pilot Plant. PST is part of Enzyme, Protein & Strain Engineering in R&D.

In this role you’ll make an impact by:
 

• Leading and developing scientists and research associates with focus on developing and optimizing fermentation processes for new and optimized production strains using primarily automated lab-scale fermentation equipment.

• Encourage and support new fermentation technology development in alignment with our R&D roadmap

• Creating success through others by using intent-based leadership and being a strong people manager with a keen interest in nurturing passion and continuous learnings

• Coaching employees to thrive and deliver results in an agile team setting

• Creating value to our customers by translating scientific knowledge into biological solutions

• Networking with other parts of Novonesis and securing that the department works on the right problems for the right customers

• Securing a strong innovation culture, an inclusive environment, and a great place to work

• Driving an automation and digitalization mindset and how this can improve our way of working

Potentially relevant experience:

You must hold a Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering, Biology, Biochemistry or similar. We expect you to have
 

• Leadership experience from an R&D setting

• Solid understanding of enzyme/protein expression and fermentation processes including upscaling of processes to large scale.

• A collaborative mindset and good people skills, being able to lead changes and bring motivation

• Be open-minded and curious towards how enzymes/proteins provide value in real applications

• Strong communication, networking, and great stakeholder management skills

The position is time limited to 2½ years
