The Position: We are looking for an experienced Pension Actuarial Senior Manager with a strong interest in growing their expertise in a mission-driven environment, while working on key projects with internal and external stakeholders. This exciting role will provide you with an opportunity to lead as the dedicated account manager for pension services. In addition, you’ll have the opportunity to interact with clients and participate in the many components of supporting a new business.
In this role as Senior Manager, you will serve as the day-to-day contact on your work products, working closely with company leadership to set the vision and direction on behalf of your clients. You will train junior resources and manage their growth and performance and work to grow the practice. Additionally, you will continue to hone your ability to lead both small and large projects and demonstrate your desire to go above and beyond to serve clients, providing valuable insights that position businesses for long-term success.
This is a paid, salaried position.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as account manager on projects ranging from small one-off analyses to large-scale consulting engagements within the Pension practice
- Review and analyze work products to ensure quality and accuracy; including plan data, funding and accounting valuations
- Demonstrate listening, writing and speaking skills required to effectively and empathetically address various technical and nontechnical audiences in both formal and informal settings
- Partner with the Practice Leader to build and grow the practice and develop the team that supports the impactful work we do for our clients
- Assist with new business development, including attending/speaking at relevant industry conferences, writing articles and insight pieces for Athena’s website and outside publications, and assisting with proposal evaluation, drafting and review
- Demonstrate exemplary level of personal and professional integrity, and ability to support and promote Athena’s mission and values
- Participate in Athena strategy meetings and providing feedback on Athena community initiatives
Location: This position is remote. There will be multiple opportunities, and requirements, to travel to clients, and other Athena hub cities for team building and in-person work weeks.
Candidates must be a US citizen or permanent resident.
Requirements:
- Ideal candidates have 10+ years of experience in pension actuarial work
- ASA or FSA and EA certifications
- Successful experience in a consulting environment, managing multiple clients and accounts
- In depth experience in Client and Project management
- Demonstrated experience in pension or other actuarial projects
- Adaptable to ambiguity and able to handle undefined assignments, serving as a flexible team player ready to tackle new and evolving tasks.
- Experience and desire in developing junior actuarial resources through training and day-to-day collaboration
- Proven track record in identifying new sales opportunities and driving revenue growth by strengthening existing client relationships.
- Experience leading a team

- Expertise in MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Word
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment and travel as needed for client requirements
