Job Description
JOB PURPOSE
The Senior Manager: Finance will be responsible for overseeing the financial health of the organization through effective cash management, business partnering, and guidance to various departments. This role encompasses debtors and cash flow management, stakeholder management, statutory and legal compliance, accounts payable function management, and driving efficiencies through automation. The Senior Manager: Finance will also lead a team, ensuring that critical functions are supported and risks are mitigated.
To assist in building corporate governance structures to ensure the organisation participates as a good corporate citizen and nurtures positive relationships inside and outside the organisation.
To contribute constructively at Management Committee and Group level, to create sustainable profitability and find new ways of creating shareholder value.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Cash Management & Treasury:
- Monitor cash flow and liquidity to ensure the organization meets its financial obligations.
- Develop and implement cash management strategies to optimize cash reserves and minimize costs.
- Manage the organization’s treasury functions, including investment strategies, funding, and risk management.
- Ensure effective cash and liquidity management to support operational needs and strategic initiatives.
Debtors and Cashflow Management:
- Oversee the accounts receivable process to ensure timely collection of debts and manage credit risk.
- Analyse cash flow trends and prepare reports for management, highlighting areas for improvement.
Business Partnering and Guidance
- Collaborate with various departments to provide financial insights and recommendations that drive strategic decision-making.
- Support the budgeting and forecasting processes and ensure alignment with business objectives.
Stakeholder Management:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external auditors, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and standards.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including department heads and external partners.
Statutory and Legal Management:
- Ensure compliance with all statutory and legal financial requirements, including tax filings and financial reporting.
- Oversee tax compliance including VAT and company tax, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
- Support BBBEE compliance and employment equity initiatives within the organization.
Staff Management:
- Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- Implement cross-training initiatives to reduce risk associated with key staff fulfilling critical functions without backup.
Accounts Payable Function Management:
- Oversee the accounts payable process, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments.
- Implement controls to prevent fraud and ensure compliance with internal policies.
Monthly Reporting:
- Prepare and present comprehensive monthly financial reports, including variance analysis and commentary on budget versus actual performance.
- Update budgets and forecasts regularly, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and strategic initiatives.
Management Reporting:
- Deliver insightful reporting for management, including finance and operational reviews, to facilitate informed decision-making.
- Analyse financial performance and provide actionable recommendations to improve profitability and efficiency.
Identify Efficiencies and Implement Automation:
- Analyse current financial processes and identify areas for improvement and automation.
- Lead initiatives to implement technology solutions that enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.
Update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs):
- Review, update, and implement standard operating procedures and processes within the finance department to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
- Ensure that all financial processes are documented and communicated to relevant stakeholders.
Other Relevant Functions:
- Stay updated on industry trends and changes in financial regulations that may affect the organization.
- Participate in strategic planning and contribute to the development of the organization's financial strategy.
- Lead special projects as assigned, providing financial analysis and support to drive project success.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:
Educational Qualifications:
- Minimum qualification BCom
Professional Qualifications
- Chartered Accountant (SA) / Cima member advantageous.
Years of Experience
- Ten or more years’ experience in a combination of an operational and financial role in a medium to large organisation with at least 5 years on a senior level.
- Knowledge of IFRS and all relevant statutory requirements, regulations and standards are essential.
- Experience in working within an international company with cross boarder operations and exposure to international tax and organisational structuring.
- Proven experience crafting and implementing business and financial strategies, policies, practices and operating plans ensuring implementation of long-term business strategy and enhanced financial and operational efficiencies of the organisation.
- Proven experience of reliable financial and management (financial and non-financial) reporting in a timeous, accurate and simple format: monthly, quarterly and annually.
- Extensive experience of billing environments, implementation of billing systems, development of control environments, customer friendly billing processes and views.
- Functional understanding of payment landscape (customer payments) including retail, mobile, online and other potential payment platforms with the ability to best leverage these platforms to improve customer experience when making payments.
- Have a comprehensive understanding of internal audit, risk, forensic and compliance functions.
- Have a deep understanding of internal controls and how to test them for effectiveness.
- Have experience in the control of appropriate cash management tools to measure and monitor organisational cash flows and in so doing structure appropriate facilities.
- Provision of operational and financial guidance to all subsidiary, associate and related companies including the facilitation of key negotiations, acquisitions and renewals of content and related rights.
- Can demonstrate the development of a cohesive and motivated finance team, implementing appropriate structures to ensure continuity and succession.
