Scope of work and main purpose
The Estimating Senior Manager job will be primarily responsible for shepherding advanced CAPEX models through Avangrid’s Financial Investment Decision process, working with teams across the organization. This role will drive estimating and CAPEX process development and respond to senior management requests for structured CAPEX information. This role will also drive our CAPEX team’s efforts to bring forwards our wind repower portfolio to FID. The Estimating Senior Manager will manage a team of estimators to contribute to the success of our CAPEX Management team.
Major Roles and Responsibilities
Resposibilities for the position include:
- Build and maintain advanced CAPEX models for late-stage wind/solar/battery projects to contribute to success during Avangrid’s FID (Financial Investment Decision) process.
- Work with Investment Office, Supply Chain, Tax, Pre-Construction, Engineering and Procurement teams during the FID process to ensure accuracy and timeliness of CAPEX model updates.
- Advance Wind repower project CAPEX models to ensure success of Avangrid’s repower portfolio efforts
- Review EPC bids to inform late-stage CAPEX models, advise senior management on contractor selection
- Conduct project site visits with potential contractors and engineering firms.
- Coordinate and review the CAPEX team’s early-stage development CAPEX models

Education & Experience:
- Master's Degree in quantitative discipline, related degree, or equivalent combination of education & experience
- Experience at an owner/operator electrical utility advancing capital projects with a budget in excess of 200M USD
- 5 years’ experience as an Estimator or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience in plant construction, production, or operations.
- Knowledge of construction estimating, parametric models and historical analysis
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse and geographically distributed teams, technical and non-technical
Skills/Abilities:
- Strong understanding of estimating principles and best practices, emphasis on working with limited information.
- Can read and understand engineering drawings, purchase orders, contracts, WBS/CBS, cost coding systems
- 10%-20% travel required
- Experience and capability to work with and communicate effectively with executives
- Written expression is clear, concise, and conveys the desired message
- Ability to navigate and succeed in a highly matrixed reporting structure, preferably at an international company.
