MISSION
Belonging to the Operations Engineering team and reporting to the Lead O&M Transmission Equipment, the Senior HV Cables O&M Engineer will be responsible for implementing and deploying the strategy to manage the HV, MV & LV cables and associated assets within the Continental Europe Offshore, making sure that a suitable and reliable infrastructure is in place, defining and implementing the necessary projects for the maintenance and renovation of this infrastructure so that it is fit for purpose at any time during the whole Offshore asset life.
The individual will be working as part of a global business with activities in many countries across Europe and the rest of the world, although with a focus on the offshore windfarm sites in Continental Europe.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS
Technical integrity
- Define the technical requirements, improvements and the maintenance strategy for the electrical equipment with main focus on the high voltage cables (HV cables) in the Continental Europe O&M Offshore business in order to maximize the availability, reliability and efficiency of the assets, as per the best industry practices.
- Providing O&M engineering support, assistance and recommendations to ensure delivery of mid to large scale O&M works within time, to budget and quality following industry best practice and observing the maximum respect for Health, Safety and the Environment to ensure regulatory and legal compliance
- Identify and claim to the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) all the technical defects found in the Electrical equipment with main focus on the HV cables and participate actively alongside the Iberdrola Contract Manager in the claim process.
- Identify the technical risks in the Business as a consequence of the condition of the Electrical equipment with main focus on the HV cables components and define the necessary actions to eliminate or mitigate these risks as much as reasonably possible. Evaluate O&M solutions / risk levels affecting technical integrity or asset performance and provide mitigation recommendations to ensure that cost effective O&M solutions are identified, fully evaluated and the risk profile can be reduced appropriately by the O&M teams.
Regulation and Legal requirements
- Make sure that the applying legal requirements affecting the Electrical equipment with main focus on the HV cables are completely fulfilled as per the conditions defined by the local official bodies in the country where the Wind Farm stands.
- Work with the HSE team to develop HSE strategy for O&M works and ensure a high standard of health and safety awareness is maintained.
Coordination of activities and standardization of the best practices in the Global O&M Offshore
- Extend the lessons learnt and the best practices to the other Hubs within the O&M Offshore Business. Assist and coordinate with employees working within a number of countries throughout Europe (UK, Germany, France, Spain…) and USA to ensure project execution with intelligent and cost-effective resourcing.
- Coordinate the maintenance strategies for electrical systems with the other Offshore O&M Hubs (UK and USA) so that uniformed, global & standardized solutions are implemented
- Coordinate the execution of the maintenance activities with the local Iberdrola Site staff based in the Wind Farm in order to make sure that these maintenance activities are carried out safely, timely and with the required quality.
PROFILE/REQUIREMENTS
Education
- BSc in Engineering studies
- Desirable MSc in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
Experience required
- Considerable experience in HVAC & HVDC cables design or manufacturing (particularly subsea cables).
- Experience of contracting, engineering design or delivery.
- Experience in HV cable installation, testing and maintenance (subsea and above sea inspections).
- Experience in HV joints/termination and connections.
- Renewables/O&G/Marine experience.
- Some track record in operation and maintenance delivery.
- Some experience in engineering industry, academia or consultancy.
- Part of global teams for multitask, international projects.
- Management of contract.
- Desirable experience working on offshore wind farms.
- Desirable knowledge of H&S and environmental legislation associated with marine/offshore operations projects.
- Desirable awareness of international standards on electrical systems design.
Other requirements
- IT literate with the ability to operate MS Office systems and other IT based project management software.
- Able to work in global and multicultural teams.
- High project management capacity. Results driven.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Developed report writing, presentation skills and ability to summarize a parameters and drivers impacting the scope of works.
- Good planning and analysis skills with the ability to look forward and anticipate problems and thereafter plan and implements mitigating solutions to negate the effect of such problems.
- Flexible to travel around Europe and overseas.
- Certain level of fitness for offshore works supported with medical certificate according to AWMF guideline.
- GWO basic safety training certificates are desirable.
