The position will be responsible for developing financial analysis and financial reporting which will support the partnership, practice groups, and other administrative teams. The analyst’s primary duty will be to maintain, improve, and develop the firm’s revenue and expense budgeting processes. An ideal candidate will be comfortable managing a budgeting application, summarizing large sets of data, identifying trends, and synthetizing learnings into presentations for executive consumption. In addition to significant forecasting responsibilities, the analyst will also play a role in supporting the firm’s general analysis and reporting efforts.
The candidate must have sufficient experience in order to add credibility to their recommendations given to management. The candidate must be able to work independently and work with various systems and organizational infrastructure. This Senior Financial Analyst will work closely with the Financial Planning & Analysis Manager, the Director of Finance & Data Analytics, and two additional Financial Analysts.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, and ad hoc financial/operational analysis reports routinely and in a timely manner.
  • Data gathering, research, and analytical abilities, along with managing workflows for tasks, queries, and issues.
  • Quickly handle sensitive ad-hoc requests by providing the requester the appropriate information.
  • Develop financial modeling and analysis relevant to firm needs and industry trends.
  • Work closely with department leaders and practice group administrators to develop reports and produce clear presentations to assist with management across the firm.
  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of the overall firm’s budgeting and forecasting efforts.
  • Identify opportunities to improve our forecasting offerings and have the hard skills to convert these ideas into practice.
  • Learn a complex budgeting application with two distinct interfaces (Microsoft Excel client and internet/web client).
  • Utilize external data to benchmark firm performance and opportunities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years of related experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or another degree emphasizing data analysis preferred.
  • Experience in an Analyst role strongly preferred.
  • Expert in Excel and comfortable in PowerPoint.
  • Experience with financial analysis, financial reporting, and budgeting/forecasting.
  • Experience with business applications outside of Microsoft Office.
  • Experience working with large datasets in Microsoft Excel, SQL, SSRS, Tableau, R or other BI data visualization tools.
  • Experience with relational databases and OLAP cubes.
  • Experience querying and validating data.
  • Experience with financial modeling and basic statistics.

PHYSICAL EFFORT / WORK CONDITIONS

  • This position operates in a professional office environment which is generally free of hazards and exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
  • This position requires regular attendance on-site at a Dechert location with some travel to different sites using various modes of private and commercial transportation. Incumbents may be required to work extended hours including evenings and weekends.
  • This position routinely operates standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopy machines, fax machines and filing cabinets, and requires frequent communication with the firm’s employees and partners as well as third parties.
  • This position is mainly sedentary.  Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to read, sit and type for sustained periods of time; to walk, stand, reach, and bend; to open and close filing cabinets and access and retrieve materials in file rooms; to lift, carry and move files or other items of light to moderate weight; to operate equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
  • This position requires a normal audio range, with or without correction. It also requires the normal visual range, with or without correction. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
