Senior Financial Accountant
Location: Ebury Madrid Office - 4 days a week, office-based working (1 day from home office)
Role
The Finance team is a strong and growing part of the business. We’re looking for an individual who can support and challenge us in our journey to take finance to the next level.
The Senior Financial Accountant will work within the Financial Control and Reporting (FC&R) team, reporting directly to one of the Financial Controllers.
The FC&R team is responsible for maintaining proper accounting records both locally and at a Group level, including internal and external IFRS and local GAAP reporting, as well as reporting to the parent company, Santander. In addition, this team is responsible for complex accounting areas such as IFRS 9 and 13, IFRS 16, IAS 36, IAS 38, etc. The role will incorporate establishing and enhancing control measures and identifying opportunities for Ebury to be more efficient and effective.
You will be instrumental in delivering an efficient and effective Financial Control framework across our global operations. The Finance team is a commercially focused, business partnering team, where you will work with key business control owners throughout the organisation.
This is a position that will require autonomy and attention to detail.
Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on financial performance, including variance analysis and commentary for senior management.
- Present results in a monthly forum to senior management, elaborating on any unusual trends during the month and answering questions as they arise
- Identify opportunities for automation of reporting and work with the technology team to build these enhancements
- Accounting and Audit:
- Manage subsidiary audits, including coordination of all auditor requests and ensuring adherence to deadlines
- Participate in accounting functions, performing the calculations and bookings as part of month-end close
- Develop and maintain complex excel spreadsheets
- Participate in automation projects to convert manual tasks to system-based
- Support the development of a culture of ownership and accountability for identifying and initiating change that will improve processes, controls, and systems
- Proactively engage with all functional areas across Ebury’s global operations, and external parties, undertaking an analytical review of processes, ensuring appropriate controls are in place and advising on improvements and efficiencies to provide timely reporting to external parties.
The successful candidate should demonstrate the capacity to adapt to the changing environment, as well as have critical thinking and strong communication skills. The candidate will need to effectively collaborate and employ innovative practices, to increase efficiencies both in finance as well as across the business.
Required Experience
- Finance professional with at least 2-5 years of relevant experience; Big 4 is a plus
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and data analysis
- IFRS knowledge is required
- Fluent in English; Spanish is a plus
- Have an understanding of financial services. Experience in a FinTech or banking environment is a plus
- Experience with NetSuite or similar accounting system
- Consolidation accounting knowledge is a plus
- Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work with large amounts of data without compromising accuracy
- Desire to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects with tight deadlines
- High adaptability - ability to cope with product, system and role and responsibility change in a rapidly growing company
