Overview:
Manage a team of financial managers and analysts who are responsible for determining appropriate accounting for and recording amounts related to products sold to customers in the Consumer segment of the Bank. Works with businesses and business finance contacts to enhance our understanding of products, systems, controls, and accounting conventions. Contributes to strategic initiatives including our journey to modernize the finance function, identify efficiencies, and incorporate other best practices into our process. Good team player who works closely with line of business contacts and the financial reporting team.
Primary Responsibilities:
Serves as finance point of contact to consumer segment businesses. Responsible for:
- Understanding existing and new products and ensuring that critical terms, supporting processes, systems, controls, and general ledger lineage are properly documented
- Supervising finance analysts and/or directly recording month-end entries in the general ledger
- Working with the accounting policy and financial reporting teams to apply proper GAAP and disclosure requirements to products and transactions
- Sourcing data to support financial statement disclosures related to the Consumer segment
- Preparing and explaining variances in balances between prior month and forecast to senior management
Supports the team leading the finance modernization initiative
Coach and develop junior managers and analysts for a sustainable bench-strength and resource planning.
Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations. · Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.

Supervisory/ Managerial Responsibilities:
Full supervisory, development of team through professional leadership. Possess ability to direct/persuade/influence across division and peers throughout the bank.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum 9 years’ experience in Finance, Business or a related field with 3 years’ managerial experience or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 13 years’ higher education and/or work experience with 3 years’ managerial experience
Strong organization skills with emphasis placed on detail and the ability to work effectively under time constraints
Strong analytical ability and creative problem-solving skills, including knowledge and application of GAAP
Demonstrated accuracy and timeliness
Demonstrated team work leadership
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
In-depth knowledge of the banking industry and related GAAP principles
Strong interpersonal skills and maturity to build relationships and interact from a business as well as a technical standpoint
Education and Experience Preferred:
Advanced degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration
Certified Public Accountant license or Chartered Financial Analyst
Experience with consumer lending products and residential mortgage origination and servicing
Working knowledge of US GAAP accounting and disclosure requirements for consumer lending and residential mortgage products
M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $118,945.80 - $198,243.00 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
