The Job 

Do you love building teams and mentoring engineers? Are you someone who can’t help checking graphs throughout the day to know how systems are performing? Are you interested in the technologies that serve as a foundation for which engineering teams build their products? If so, the Omnidian Platform Engineering team might be for you! Our team maintains our cloud infrastructure and our build and deployment tooling, builds and maintains shared services for engineering teams, and works to improve developer experience. We work collaboratively with the rest of engineering and we do our best to ensure they have the tools they need for success.


As the Senior Manager of Platform Engineering, you will both lead and grow our Platform Engineering team, and provide technical leadership to our growing engineering organization. As a people manager, you’ll provide both technical and professional mentorship to your team, actively guiding them in their career growth journeys. As a technical leader you’ll help our engineering organization mature over time by introducing improvements to our engineering processes and practices, and by taking an active role in the education and development of our engineers. You’ll report to our Senior Vice President of Engineering.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead our platform engineering team

  • Grow our platform engineering team and actively mentor those engineers, guiding them on the journey down their chosen career path.
  • Provide technical leadership to the platform engineering team, using your knowledge and experience to provide fresh perspectives and help the team make decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with the engineering teams that depend on us to help continuously refine our team’s direction and focus.
  • Make significant contributions to our maturing engineering organization

  • Lead the effort to evolve our engineering processes and practices, continually advocating for, and socializing change as we grow.
  • Guide our engineering organization in our effort to continually improve the software we write. You’ll help us better define domains, establish cleaner boundaries between those domains, and build more intuitive interfaces between them.
  • Identify gaps in technical knowledge within the organization, develop training plans and materials for engineers, and help motivate them to broaden their skillsets and hone their skills!

Who You Are

  • You’re an empathetic leader with a proven track record of mentoring and nurturing your team. Those you have previously led should be closer to their career goals partly due to your efforts.
  • You’re a practiced oral and written communicator and you are comfortable speaking in front of an audience. You know how to connect and relate with different audiences in both group and 1-to-1 settings.
  • You take responsibility for your team’s outcomes and you play an active role in your team’s successes (and failures). You are genuinely interested in the work the team is doing and proactively keep yourself informed of their work and the health of their systems.
  • You lead by example and your actions inspire the growth of engineers across the organization.

Experience You’ll Need

  • You have a breadth of experience with technologies relevant to a Platform Engineering team (Cloud services, containerization, CI/CD, etc.) and have a deep understanding of how they all work together.
  • You’ve managed a Platform, Infrastructure, or DevOps team in the past and you’re intimately familiar with the challenges those teams face running critical systems and infrastructure.
  • You have experience evaluating trade-offs in the decision-making process and know when, and when not to, prioritize work. You’ve evaluated whether to build something in-house or license 3rd-party software and you can speak confidently to that experience.
  • You’ve made significant contributions to improving engineering practices and processes in a growing company and have evolved those practices and processes over a company’s different stages of growth.

Experience That’s a Plus

  • All of our software is written in Kotlin, Java, and Python. We run it all in Kubernetes on AWS and integrate and deploy with Bitbucket and FluxCD. We observe our systems using Prometheus, Grafana, and Sentry. Experience with any of these specific technologies will help when onboarding, but we only require experience with similar technologies!
  • You have experience leading distributed, remote teams and you have techniques and tools for collaboration you’d love to share!
