Job Description Summary:
The Sr. Director, Operating Tax is part of The Coca-Cola Company’s Corporate Tax function and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the US Operating Tax function, including sales and use taxes, property taxes, beverage taxes, economic development incentives, unclaimed property, and other indirect taxes. This role ensures that the Company’s US Operating Tax strategy is fully aligned with the broader Corporate Tax strategy.
What You’ll Do for Us
- Lead, develop, and mentor an experienced team of Operating Tax professionals.
- Actively engage with various North America Operating Unit (NAOU) business functions to provide strategic tax advice on business initiatives and articulate operating tax implications to key NAOU business leads.
- Provide strategic tax guidance surrounding acquisitions, dispositions, and new legal entity or business structure changes within the North American Operating Unit (NAOU).
- Lead team’s audit defense work in connection with regular audits by state and local tax authorities and work with Tax Counsel on appeals.
- Establish and maintain an Operating Tax governance framework consisting of robust internal controls and policies that align and follow the broader Company’s guidelines.
- Actively engage with internal Tax Counsel, Public Affairs team and relevant tax industry groups to stay ahead of constantly changing state/local tax laws and emerging trends in the Operating Tax space.
- Strategically partner with tax technology colleagues to evaluate new tools to help analyze and synthesize system data to use for audit defense and other tax planning purposes.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key external tax/legal advisors to ensure effective resolution of complicated tax audits, appeals and emerging tax planning ideas.
- Provide strong project management skills involving operating tax related initiatives. Drive project completion to meet agreed upon timelines while providing appropriate updates to Corporate Tax and NAOU Finance leadership teams.
- Manage tax planning strategies, with an ability to escalate and resolve issues.
- Liaise with internal and external partners responsible for Operating Tax-related compliance.
- Develop a strategy for proactive engagement with various authorities to help digitize our interaction and prevent future controversy with governments where possible.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Strong tax technical skills in sales/use tax, property tax, negotiated and statutory tax incentives, unclaimed property, beverage taxes, and bottle deposit laws.
- Robust communication skills and an ability to effectively collaborate with key business stakeholders, Corporate Tax colleagues, external advisors and governmental agency representatives.
- A working knowledge and understanding of SAP S/4 HANA and other core company systems and external bolt-on tax technology software (i.e., Vertex and PTMS).
- Location: Atlanta, GA
- Travel Requirements: Occasional travel required
Educational Background and Professional Experience
- Candidates should possess at least a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field. An advanced degree in accounting/tax and professional certifications in related fields is preferred.
- Minimum of ten years of operating tax experience working in a multinational corporation (preferably in the CPG industry), or equivalent experience in a Big 4 accounting firm.

Pay Range:
$175,000 - $202,000
Base pay offered may vary depending on geography, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position, is offered.
