How you will impact the organization…
Reporting to the Director, Infrastructure Operations, the Sr. DevOps Engineer role is part of a team supporting both cloud-based and on-premises compute infrastructure running both UNIX/Linux and Windows operating systems. In addition to responding to alerts and trouble tickets, participating in the change management process, and other tasks as assigned by management, the role is responsible for supporting and extending the monitoring, alerting, metrics, and observability platforms used to support the company’s applications and infrastructure. Knowledge of cloud-based resources, tooling, and best practices for resiliency, high availability, automatic scaling, large scale observability, and IaC tooling is required, and the role will support existing and new deployments of applications and infrastructure throughout the enterprise. This includes refactoring and developing new modules within the established tooling and deployment frameworks, as well as independently identifying areas for improvement, efficiency, and cost management across the technology stacks used by the enterprise. Documentation skills and the ability to mentor other team members and peers on these platforms as well as other development and operational best practices is required.
While this position will be a key member of the DevOps team, and expected to partner closely with Engineering peers to support deployments of both new projects and upgrades or enhancements to existing platforms, the initial experience and focus of the role is on large scale, resilient, highly available observability, detection, and alerting platforms leveraging common open-source technologies such as Prometheus, Thanos, OpenTelemetry, or their equivalents, as well as visualization tools such as Grafana or other equivalents.
The value you will deliver…
- Develop and implement new modules, pipelines, and tooling within the established IaC and automation standards and frameworks for integration and deployment of new technologies, observability and monitoring, as well as extending existing systems.
- Partner with other teams across the technology group and lead the Infrastructure Operations efforts to implement, document, monitor, and maintain new platforms and projects.
- Use, update, extend and enhance legacy deployment systems and IaC pipelines to deploy changes to current applications and support new platforms.
- Provide mentorship and leadership to the team as well as participating in diagnosing and resolving hardware, operating system, application, and cloud infrastructure issues across all environment
- Research, propose, develop and implement solutions to improve and upgrade both on-premises and cloud-based resources, infrastructure, and systems.
- Create, update and maintain documentation on new developments, as well as refactor and review existing documentation for troubleshooting, and Methods of Procedure for deployments.
- Monitor on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure as well as update and maintain monitors, metrics, and alerting systems.
- Monitor ticket queues, provide timely and accurate updates, and resolve trouble tickets as well as feature request and development tickets.
- Monitor and respond to requests and questions in Slack channels, providing diagnostic and troubleshooting guidance to peers and team members.
- Create tickets and participate in deployments following Change Management procedures.
- Initiate efforts to review and ensure existing platforms are performing resiliently, efficiently, and are cost effective.
- Create, update and maintain documentation on new developments, as well as refactor and review existing documentation for troubleshooting, and Methods of Procedure for deployments.
- Ensure systems and users follow security standards and follow established policy, and support audit processes.
- Participate in on-call rotations based on subject matter expertise.
- Light travel to summit meetings or conferences may be required.

What you will bring to the table…
- 6+ years hands-on UNIX/Linux system administration experience in a distributed enterprise environment
- 4+ years experience designing and implementing infrastructure as code within AWS ecosphere using Terraform
- Mastery of observability, monitoring, metrics and alerting at scale across regionally and globally resilient and distributed platforms leveraging common open source frameworks such as Prometheus, Thanos, Clickhouse, Grafana, etc.
- Expert level proficiency in at least one scripting (Bash, Perl, etc) and one programming language. (Python, Go, Ruby, etc). (Code samples and/or GitHub links to prior work desirable)
- Mastery in DevOps discipline and processes supporting Infrastructure as Code frameworks such as Terraform, and Continuous Delivery Tools such as CodePipeline, Jenkins, Git, Vagrant, Consul, JFrog, etc.
- Mastery of Containerization, and strong familiarity with the container ecosystem, especially ECS.
- Mastery in config automation tool sets such as AWS Config and/or SSM, Puppet, Ansible, Chef, etc - Includes solid knowledge of concepts and practices surrounding such solutions
- Hands on experience with APM tool sets such as Zipkin, Jaeger, OpenAPM, NewRelic, etc
- Proficient with Jira, Confluence, and git toolset
- Hands-on experience with Agile/Scrum & Waterfall process environments
- Consistently exhibits a personal accountability to outcomes to all team members, peers, and stakeholders.
- Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously in order to meet deadlines.
- Self-starter able to work independently with minimal supervision, and high organization and communication skills to ensure alignment with team and project goals.
- Driven to learn and stay abreast of the latest technologies and best practices.

- Experience with PCI, HiTrust, FedRamp/GovCloud and/or similar certification methodologies
- Experience with migrating and educating teams to newer SDLC concepts
- Experience with kubernetes/EKS/Fargate and related technologies
- AWS, APM/Observability, and/or DevOps/SRE training and certification
- Active, transferable U.S. Security clearance at the Public Trust level or higher preferred

The salary range for this role is $170,000 - $190,000 USD annually. The total compensation package for this position is negotiable and may also include [annual performance bonus, ESPP, enhanced time off packages and benefits.]
