This role
The Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring our adherence to applicable laws and internal policies while promoting a culture of compliance, ethical conduct, and risk awareness across the organization, by lead our Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Privacy, and Regulatory Compliance efforts locally as well lead and scale a team of Financial Crimes Operations Associates and collaborate cross-functionally with local and international teams.
Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance & Oversight
Design, implement, and maintain AML/CFT frameworks aligned with local and global regulations (e.g., LFPORPI, FATF, BSA, OFAC).
Own and manage compliance programs for financial institutions under CNBV, Banxico, and CONDUSEF (LIC, LACP, LTOSF, etc.).
Serve as the certified Compliance Officer and primary liaison with regulators. Lead regulatory reporting, audits, and inspections.
Financial Crime & Risk Management
Lead the full lifecycle of KYC/KYB processes including onboarding, periodic reviews, and remediation.
Oversee AML transaction monitoring, customer screening, and SAR investigations.
Analyze financial crime typologies, recommend mitigation strategies, and manage related policies and systems.
Privacy & Data Protection
Ensure compliance with data privacy laws (INAI, GDPR, CCPA). Act as privacy lead for breach response and internal coordination.
Maintain and update privacy policies; promote internal governance and awareness of individual rights (ARCO).
Governance, Ethics & Due Diligence
Deploy and manage Ethics & Compliance policies (conflicts of interest, gifts, donations, memberships).
Conduct third-party due diligence and oversee compliance-related reviews with vendors and partners.
Manage external law firm relationships to ensure aligned legal support.
People & Cross-Functional Leadership
Guide casework and team performance; ensure SLA compliance and operational excellence.
Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Legal, Sales, and Risk teams to embed compliance-by-design.
Lead internal training programs and promote regulatory awareness across the organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Law.
- More than 6 years of experience in in AML, AB&C, or financial crime compliance at a financial institution or regulatory body, developing internal control systems, risk rating models, and AML investigative procedures; with at least 3 years of people management experience in AML, sanctions, fraud, compliance, or operations.
- Strong knowledge of financial crime regulations and frameworks: LFPORPI, UIF guidelines, BSA/Patriot Act, FATF, OFAC, etc.
- In-depth knowledge of local financial regulations and global fintech regulatory trends.
- Strategic thinking and strong problem-solving skills; ability to navigate ambiguity and build structure.
- High proficiency in data analysis for operational performance and compliance trends.
- Strong interpersonal and executive communication skills.
- Certified Compliance Officer (Mandatory), UIF certification (Preferred) and ACAMS (Desirable).
