Job Summary: The Baldwin Group is looking for a Senior Business Systems Analyst (BSA) to support the Data and Analytics organization. The Senior BSA will help ensure success of data and analytics projects by serving as a liaison between users and data analysts/developers, gathering requirements, setting and communicating goals, assessing project priority, and evaluating and refining project results. The Senior Business Systems Analyst will play a critical role in analyzing, designing, and implementing business systems and processes to meet the strategic objectives of the organization. This role will collaborate with our business and development staff to deliver world-class data and analytics projects.
As a Senior BSA, you will be responsible for gathering business requirements, translating business needs into technical solutions, examine existing and new systems/processes for improvement, report common issues, evaluate performance, and recommend new procedures. You will collaborate closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, data scientists, and other cross-functional teams to ensure the efficient delivery of data-driven insights that align with business goals. The role will also provide training and guidance to other BSA's and colleagues related to the role to help them develop and grow. To excel in this position, you should be an experienced professional with in-depth knowledge of business processes and business system analysis techniques. The ideal candidate will have experience with data and analytics projects and demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with business staff to thoroughly understand the needs to be supported by Data and Analytics, and technology projects.
- Work with business stakeholders to gather and document detailed requirements related to data and analytics needs. Translate business requirements into technical specifications for data systems and processes.
- Determines how changes to the project will affect the business and systems.
- Responds to inquiries and provides advice to colleagues regarding current and potential system inputs, processes, and outputs.
- Facilitate requirements gathering sessions between business and IT and develops detailed requirements documents.
- Creates user stories based on requirements and maintains a groomed backlog for Agile process.
- Coordinate user acceptance testing (UAT) for new data systems, tools, and processes. Ensure that data is accurate, reliable, and aligns with business requirements.
- Develops and communicates detailed specifications for implementation.
- Maintains and ensures proper documentation.
- Collaborates with the Project Manager and BI Manager to ensure business partner needs are met.
- Partners with Project Manager to negotiate plans and timeframes, ensuring that the business understands the anticipated result.
- Acts as liaison with Information Technology and/or outside vendors to support relevant systems.
- Maintains current understanding of industry standards, trends, and best practices through industry and other professional networks.
- Creates, develops, provides, or coordinates system training, materials, and other educational tools.
- Works on multiple concurrent projects.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Insurance knowledge/experience strongly desired.
- 5 - 8 years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with data analytics tools, such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar.
- Familiarity with SQL or similar querying languages.
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Proficient in documenting business requirements, process flows, and system designs.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies is a plus.
- Extremely organized with great attention to detail.
- Ability to make decisions quickly and with little guidance.
- Ability to adapt to change.
- Ability to learn quickly and to creatively solve new problems.
- Ability to negotiate and settle differences quickly and peacefully.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software program.
- Ability to act as a team player.
- Proven ability to lead and manage complex projects and initiatives.
- Knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and agile methodologies.
- Ability to help more other BSAs develop in their roles.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
- At least five to eight years of related experience.
- Strong understanding of business analysis methodologies, tools, and techniques.
- Experience providing training and coaching to more junior BSA or colleagues.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
