About the team and position
The Safe & Secure Support Team (SSST) helps to keep our 20,000+ associates, who work at our 200+ various locations, safe and secure every day. By collaborating with various Carvana teams the SSST delivers strategic planning, security program development, technology innovation, risk mitigation processes, data analytics, crisis management, and project management. In partnership with the Field Safe & Secure Team and the Support Safe & Secure Team - the SSST is an integral part of how we ensure the safety and security of all associates every day at every site.
The Senior Analyst will be responsible for data analysis, data validation, and reporting that provides the necessary support to move our business forward. The Senior Data Analyst, Safe & Secure will partner with the Safe & Secure (Support, Operations, Field, Campus, and Hub/VM) leadership teams to understand workflows, operations, identify areas of opportunity, and utilize their technical skills to improve problems. The Senior Analyst will develop and maintain Tableau reporting dashboards to provide visibility to the day-to-day operations, drive analytical problem solving, and conduct root cause analysis to help the team to achieve necessary KPIs. They will analyze multiple components of a problem and then make conclusions using high-level quantitative skills to help drive subsets of larger projects, initiatives, and individual processes or projects that bring value to Carvana and the Safe & Secure team. The Senior Analyst reports to the Manager, Safe & Secure Support and may supervise more junior team member(s). The Senior Analyst, Safe & Secure will ensure effective integration with other Carvana partners and stakeholders with data, analysis, and reporting that impacts our organization or help drive the implementation of our Safe & Secure Mission.
What you’ll be doing
- Using your technical chops.
- SQL! SQL! SQL! This role relies heavily on Structured Query Language (SQL), and we're looking for someone who lives and breathes it. **FYI- we'll send out a SQL test as the first step of the process, so be on the lookout.
- Work with Python and R data languages to help automate data processing and analysis.
- Utilize business intelligence-related tools and concepts such as Tableau, SQL (through MS SQL Server), relational database design, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Excel, Python, etc., to solve unit loss, damages, Workers’ Comp, and operational problems.
- Be involved in extracting, cleansing, and visualizing data using the tools and techniques described above.
- Builds predictive models using data, tests the model on results outside the sample size, and verifies the model in the real world.
- Leverages data analytics tools to create new dashboards, reports, and any additional ad-hoc requests.
- Create reports, specifications, instructions, and flowcharts to communicate analyses, trends, and recommendations to operational teams and business leaders.
- You'll develop and maintain forecasting models to support Safe & Secure KPIs.
- Interpret, evaluate, and interrelate research data and partner with operational leaders to plan and prioritize critical projects, set KPIs, forecast impacts, and build execution plans.
- You will work with others to understand business processes and deliver data so that non-technical resources can understand the story the data tells them.
- You will become familiar with current operations across various departments and work cross-functionally with stakeholders and other analysts.
- Collaborate with our leaders to design systems to capture granular data to drive future decisions and help prioritize engineering efforts around proposed technology solutions.
- Serve as a trainer and coach to our Safe and Secure Department regarding data
- Responsible for leading, mentoring, and motivating a team of Safe and Secure Technology Administrators.
- Always solve problems proactively by thinking both big and small.

What you should know/have
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited undergraduate institution in Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, Finance, Math, Supply Chain, or similar field.
- 4+ years of experience in data, reporting, or analytics.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in SQL.
- Experience with Databricks.
- Knowledge of visualization software, such as Tableau.
- Curiosity to continue learning new analytical methods and tools (ETL processes, Python, etc.).
- The ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, data science, and business teams and communicate across them in a clear and concise manner understood by all.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and the ability to work with ambiguity.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong problem solving skills with a willingness to think outside the box.
- Self-starter’s mentality with a strong sense of urgency.
- Analytical skills/mindset.
- Strong collaborator who knows how to build strong relationships that drive great results.
