Are you ready for a new beginning?
We need your talent, knowledge and dedication to better our world with biology.
Our purpose points the way
In Novonesis, we know that solutions rooted in biology can help solve humanity’s biggest challenges. Since we began more than a century ago, this has been our guide. It’s how we've gotten so far. And it’s how we'll impact the future. Now, more than ever, the world needs change. And with biosolutions, the possibilities for transformation are endless.
We’re here to better our world with biology.
Welcome to Production Strain Technology (PST), R&D
We develop and use state-of-the-art expression technology to make high-yielding production strains in microbial hosts (Bacteria, fungi primarily). PST consists of 6 departments that are divided into cross-disciplinary agile teams, and we collaborate closely with colleagues globally. PST is part of Enzyme, Protein & Strain Engineering in R&D.
Become our new team member and be part of a cross-disciplinary, dynamic, and dedicated team!
You will be part of a department composed of 15 scientists and lab technicians located in Bagsværd and Lyngby. Our task is to support our colleagues implement automated analysis methods, enzymatic and non-enzymatic assays on our fleet of "liquid handlers" (Hamilton) and other laboratory robots. We also develop methods for HTP screening of strain and enzyme in MTP or droplets format and securing the scalability of the results to larger scale fermentation up to production.
In this role you’ll make an impact by being part of a team involved in:
- Developing & executing automated strain construction, cultivation and assay protocols for high-throughput construction and screening of fungal recombinant strains
- Supporting actively the development of automated methods and their implementation to screen for high performing filamentous fungal strains
- Have experience with Microfluidic ultra-high-throughput screening (uHTS)
- Keeping our fleet of liquid handlers and other laboratory robots maintained and troubleshoot when problems appear
- Using laboratory data information systems (e.g. Benchling) to capture and track lab processes and experimental data
- Using and writing methods for automated capture, processing, and analysis of laboratory datasets (Python, SAS JMP or similar)
- Working within an agile team and agile mindset to support multiple research projects
- Connect with and co-develop methods with other Novonesis lab automation experts around the globe and share best practices
- Ensure timely delivery of results to internal or external customers
To succeed you must:
- Have a degree in biological science, engineering, chemistry, or laboratory automation (M.Sc., Ph.D or equivalent experience). Position will be hired at a level appropriate for experience
- Have hands-on experience in translating strain engineering, synthetic biology or chemical methods into automated processes using liquid handlers and other laboratory automation (for example, strain construction, sample preparation, or assay protocols). You must be comfortable developing new methods, not just using existing ones
- Strong passion for innovative technologies and a drive to challenge and transform the status quo
- A team-oriented mindset combined with a solution-focused “can-do” attitude
- A detail-oriented and self-driven attitude to conduct hands-on experiments in the laboratory
Candidates with proven examples of one or more of the following will get preferred consideration:
- Experience with developing automation methods for Hamilton, Beckman Coulter or Echo Acoustic Liquid handlers or uHTS set-up
- Experience with Hamilton Venus software and HSL
- Experience developing automated methods for enzymatic assay
- Experience developing automated methods for MTP (small scale), fermentation and screening.
- Demonstrated proficiency in developing scripts (Python, R, JMP or other) and processes for data capture, processing, and analysis of large datasets with statistical mindset
- Prior experience using laboratory data software including Benchling is desirable
Application deadline: 01 March 2025.

What We Do
Novozymes has combined with Chr. Hansen to become Novonesis: linkedin.com/company/novonesis.
This global biosolutions company of 10,000 people is transforming how the world produces, consumes and lives. In 30-plus industries, its biosolutions help businesses meet their needs and the needs of our planet.
Novozymes was formed in 2000 when Novo Nordisk split into three companies: Novo Nordisk A/S, Novozymes A/S and Novo A/S. Novozymes was the world leader in biological solutions with a commitment to Rethink Tomorrow. It served 130 markets with enzymatic, microbial and advanced protein solutions. The company’s solutions enabled higher agricultural yields, low-temperature washing, energy-efficient production, renewable fuel and many other benefits.
In December 2022, Novozymes and Chr. Hansen entered into an agreement to create a leading global biosolutions partner by combining the two companies. The goal was to unleash the full potential of biosolutions and generate significant value for all stakeholders and society. The combination was completed on January 29, 2024 and Novonesis was born. The name means ‘a new beginning’ and is derived from the Greek word ‘genesis’. It reflects a new era where we’ll better our world with biology.
