Job Purpose:

Cerberus established our Residential Opportunities investment platform in 2008 to capitalize on opportunities to acquire distressed residential loans and mortgage-backed securities (“RMBS”) following the Global Financial Crisis. Over the past decade, our Residential Opportunities platform has continued to build upon its expertise in residential debt and evolved to earn recognition as an innovator and market leader in securitizing performing residential real estate loans and investing in single-family rental real estate (“SFR”). Our team averages 25 years of experience investing in residential debt and equity markets, and currently has ~$17 billion in dedicated assets under management.

Our Residential Opportunities strategy seeks to maximize absolute return through a combination of capital appreciation and current income, investing primarily in mortgages, loans, and real assets, and leveraging our proprietary asset management platforms to enhance performance and drive value.

As a rotational intern, you will develop a holistic understanding of our investment platform by working across varying teams including Portfolio Management, Trading, and Fundraising & Investor Relations. You will have direct access to senior leadership including portfolio managers and investment principals. The goal of our summer internship is to place you into a full-time position upon completion of your education with your preferred team.

Responsibilities/Deliverables:

Portfolio Management

  • Develop a strong understanding of the platform’s investment strategies and investment approach
  • Support portfolio managers and investment staff with financial modeling, in-depth research and analysis of industry financials, and project diligence
  • Learn how to use and maintain risk infrastructure for existing and new investments

Trading

  • Develop understanding of trading strategy for RMBS desk
  • Assist traders and investment staff with closing new deals, liquid trading activity, portfolio financing, and hedging risk
  • Serve as trading liaison with key internal stakeholders including Investment Operations, Accounting, Tax, and Legal
  • Coordinate with external counterparties on behalf of traders

Fundraising/IR

  • Assist in the creation of fundraising materials across a variety of mediums
  • Develop and maintain analytical material related to fundraising efforts
  • Review extensive data and distill into concise and relevant points in a user-friendly format for pitchbooks and other investor deliverables
  • Partner with investment professionals to understand how to best market the platform and various residential strategies
  • Track, coordinate, and respond to investor requests for information as part of the fundraising process

Key Requirements:

  • College candidate in his/her junior year at a top academic institution
  • Quantitative and analytical background
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail, especially with writing and editing documents
  • Familiarity with PowerPoint and Excel
  • Personal accountability and strong work ethic
  • Self-starter with a willingness to learn and apply knowledge
  • Person who can be successful in collaborative, dynamic, and driven work environment

The hourly rate for this position is $25.00. The hourly rate offered to the chosen candidate will be commensurate with a candidate’s relevant experience and other qualifications for the position, as determined by the Company in its sole discretion.
