Job Responsibilities:
As a member of the Global Purchasing Organization, you will assist in the development and implementation of Purchasing Strategies according to Goals and Objectives and Commodity Roadmaps defined by the Global Commodity Director. Regional / Divisional commodity responsibility for sourcing, sourcing decisions, negotiations and managing the supply base for a segment or group of suppliers in respect with purchasing policy, internal code of ethics, internal safety and environment rules.
GENERAL

  • Assist in the development and implementation of Purchasing Strategies according to Goals and Objectives and Commodity Roadmaps defined by the Global Commodity Directors in conjunction with Regional Purchasing Operations Directors
  • Regional / Divisional commodity responsibility for sourcing, sourcing decisions, negotiations and managing the supply base for a segment or group of suppliers in respect with purchasing policy, internal code of Ethics, internal safety and environment rules
  • Support the Purchasing organization under the leadership of the Global Commodity Director
  • Support the Operational Purchasing Directors in assuring that local purchasing teams comply with the Commodity Roadmaps/Strategies
  • Participates in Global Commodity Director(s) meeting for global strategy.
  • Performs strategic sourcing analyses (internal constraints, external risks, cost analysis and understanding of strategic levers, analysis of the supplier market)
  • Ensure supply base development aligns with the Commodity Roadmap (e.g. supplier growth, consolidation, resourcing)
  • Responsible for commercial negotiations of both local and global suppliers, as defined by Global Commodity Director
  • Reports his/her key metrics as required by the Global Commodity Director
  • Support Engineering Change activities, when the request requires coordination between multiple production facilities
  • Support Operational Purchasing teams to ensure continuity of supply for the regional facilities
  • Manage supplier files, component files, RFQ, contract review, etc.
  • Support supplier improvement initiatives at local level and as Lead Buyer when required
  • Assume Lead Buyer role when defined by Global Commodity Director
  • Support supplier escalation for the Purchasing Operations Team
  • Support to Supplier Quality, Sales, Engineering, and Project teams for existing programs and new business opportunities
  • Other Purchasing-related activities required to meet business needs.


FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

  • Attain the cost impact/cost reduction goals for the group
  • Reporting and tracking cost reductions and impacts for your respective commodities through the divisions and regions


LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY

  • No direct reports but will provide guidance to buyers


HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

  • Ensure all safety and non-safety rules and regulations are followed
  • Ensure adherence to established quality and housekeeping standards.
  • Review and adhere to MML's health and safety, environmental, and quality standards, operating procedures, and policies.
  • Respond immediately to items brought to his/her attention with respect to hazards, defects or non-compliance issues
  • Understand and uphold the policies that prohibit workplace violence and harassment
  • In addition to the above, the duties include those specified under the Occupational Health & Safety Act


Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, engineering, business, or related discipline
  • 5-10 years' progressive experience in Purchasing field preferably in an automotive / manufacturing environment preferably in the Plastics Commodity
  • Previous commodity experience including but not limited to electronics, wire harnesses, resin, injection molding, fasteners, assemblies.
  • Perform tasks and responsibilities detailed in Magna's IATF16949 policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Complies with the designated ISO / 14001 responsibilities related to effective environmental management in accordance with Magna's Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • Must have demonstrated success in satisfying OEM's and Tier 1 suppliers in a complex, competitive automotive market. Functional experience in areas of strategic planning, manufacturing, purchasing, supply chain management and supplier quality. Experience with manufacturing best practices and continuous improvement.
  • Knowledgeable in the areas of logistics, business quoting and launch processes, industry best practices, standards and performance metrics.
