Overview:Oversees all the manufacturing food safety and quality as well as continuous improvement and certification programs (programs include, but are not limited to, SQF, Organic, Kosher, and the Sanitation Continuum). Initiates or consults on projects related to product quality and food safety. Responsible for maintaining Corporate Food Safety and Quality procedures and work instructions. Managing food safety improvements of the sanitation programs in the plants including procedure and work instructions development and maintenance.
Job Description:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Hire and supervise SQF Practitioners across all plants
- Trend and analyze food safety and quality reports including but not limited to, Customer Complaints, CAPAs, and Master Sanitation Schedule.
- Trend microbiological and environmental testing results, and work with Corporate microbiology team in relation to quality or food safety concerns. Assist in troubleshooting with USDA-FSIS and FDA regulatory issues and food safety or quality deviations.

- Provide support to manufacturing plants in the absence of the Director of Quality Assurance.
- Provide structure for writing formal processes for manufacturing processes, work flows and work instructions for all aspects of product manufacturing.
- Ensure all work instructions for manufacturing products are complete and up to date for all product manufacturing processes.
- Ensure audits are completed for all pertinent manufacturing processes for both internal review and 3rd party compliance.
- Responsible for working across all functions and levels on changes to food safety and product quality programs and procedures
- Develop and lead integrated process management teams to develop food safety and quality monitoring programs
- Re-assess and validate associated Work Instructions and Process Operating Guides (POGs) with any implemented process or product change
- Assist manufacturing locations SQF Practitioners in annual certification audits
- Conduct internal audits and employee interviews
- Lead the plant SQF and sanitation teams in all continuous improvement activities
- Responsible for communicating changes, modifications or updates to food safety and product quality programs and procedures
- Provide concise and timely feedback to the appropriate individuals regarding issues
- Other duties as assigned
Education and/or Experience
- BS degree in a Food Science, Meat Science or related discipline is preferred (appropriate higher level technical plant work experience will be considered as an alternative)
- Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in Quality Assurance, Food Safety or a related field in a meat processing facility.
- Must have a solid understanding of SQF, HACCP/SSOP regulatory requirements.
