Company Overview:
Tarkett is seeking a Quality Engineer to join our team. This position will work closely with the operations team to continuously improve performance through driving and facilitating problem-solving, implementing and maintaining effective process controls, promoting risk mitigation, and developing quality assurance plans while ensuring consistent application of the quality standard. The Quality Engineer, along with the Quality Manager, will collaborate with operations and customer service to ensure that a quality product is delivered to customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain methods for process control, process improvement, quality testing, and product inspection; recommend and implement changes.
- Develop, implement, and provide training on standard operating procedures involving quality control.
- Monitor production methods to ensure consistency with engineering documentation.
- Provide engineering support to Operations and Customer Service to ensure fulfillment of customer requirements.
- Travel to and interface with customers to investigate and resolve complaints; respond quickly and accurately to problem identification/resolution inquiries.
- Travel to and interface with vendors to investigate and resolve issues with supplied materials.
- Validate successful root cause analysis and corrective action plans.
- Coordinate and introduce new and modified quality processes; continuously audit quality systems for deficiency identification and assess compliance to standards and the internal quality system; maintain data; provide trending analysis on quality issues and performance metrics.
- Review inspection data and prepare statistical and operational performance reports.
- Actively participate in testing, justification of acceptance limits, and sampling plans to assure compliance with requirements.
- Perform vendor audits and qualifications; provide direction on implementing incoming material inspection plans; apply sound systematic problem-solving methodologies in identifying, prioritizing, communicating, and resolving vendor quality issues; provide trending analysis on vendor quality issues and performance metrics.
- Assist in regulatory reporting activities.
- Determine quality improvement parameters by identifying statistical methods relevant to manufacturing processes.
- Establish statistical confidence by identifying sample size and acceptable error, and determining levels of confidence.
- Develop experiments by applying full and fractional factorial techniques.
- Develop sampling plans by applying attribute, variable, and sequential sampling methods.
- Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data; and making recommendations.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices, participating in professional societies, and maintaining ASQ-certified quality engineer qualification.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Ensure products adhere to company and industry quality standards.
- Brainstorm ideas to create solutions for identified problems.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related technical discipline and 3-5+ years of Quality Assurance experience (or equivalent education and work experience).
- Previous experience conducting audits.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers and shop floor employees.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Self-starter, motivated, and able to motivate others.
- Ability to effectively solve problems and manage projects.
- SAP experience preferred.
- Must be flexible to travel as needed.
Work Schedule:
Quality engineers typically work a standard 9-5, 40-hour work week. However, our manufacturing processes run 24-hour productions and may require that quality engineers step in at special intervals during the process. Must be flexible with schedule.
