What you will be doing

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Group Property to join the Construction Services Team. We are looking for an experienced individual to join the team to strengthen capabilities in support of the delivery of a highly complex programme and, to reinforce Rolls-Royce Submarines corporate capacity as an Intelligent Client for construction assurance activities.

Based in Derby, reporting to the Vice President, Construction Services on a functional level, embedded in the Submarines business on a day-to-day basis, the post holder will work closely with key business areas taking accountability for all construction assurance activity, ensuring that we remain closely aligned to and collaborate fully with internal customers.

The post holder will have a unique opportunity to shape the approach to construction assurance for all the key stages / elements of a multi-year programme utilising talent, experience, available functional support as well as corporate and industry standards under the overarching governance of RR Management System (RRMS), the Rolls-Royce Facility Projects Model (FPM), and other relevant regulatory frameworks relevant to the operation of the site.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Capability & Assurance (on a dotted line basis), embedded within the Submarines business and working closely with other workstream leads, you will lead the B&I team to drive a deep understanding of the construction requirements associated with the projects being supported. You will shape these to ensure compliance with all relevant internal corporate requirements.

You will define and implement a new construction assurance capability to support the design and construction phases of the programme across both fissile & non-fissile elements. Once implemented, you will plan and lead all construction assurance activities, working closely with the supply chain partners. As this is new capability with the Submarines business, there will be an ongoing requirement to monitor the approach, and if necessary, propose, secure approval for and implement appropriate changes.

You will be responsible for fulfilling the role of B&I workstream sponsor ensuring the B&I workstream for each project forming the overall programme is adequately resourced and supported to fulfil the requirements associated with the Facilities Project Model.

Monitor the approach and performance across the Building and Infrastructure workstream lead team and, ensuring that they are aligned with the overall progression of the project they are assigned to, and always ready to support the stage gates associated with the projects.

When appropriate, carry out periodic evaluation of the delivery effectiveness of the B&I in the context they are delivering the service. Working closely with the Submarines Infrastructure team, propose changes / improvements to the operating approach.

Who we’re looking for

  • Recent and relevant experience in working on complex construction and/or infrastructure programmes/ projects in a highly regulated industry.
  • Track record of managing teams comprising supply chain partners as well as in-house resources originating from a corporate matrix organisation.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading supply chain partners appointed to deliver the quality and build assurance requirements.
  • Proven ability to scrutinise provisions of professional services and contracts (knowledge of collaborative contracting will be advantageous).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels including senior business leadership and external agents (auditors, inspectors, etc).
  • Holding (or capable of obtaining) full UK Government’s Security Clearance (SC), Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance.

To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines business an individual has to hold a Security Check clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you do not currently already have this in place. Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets we can only progress applications from individuals who are a UK national or, in MoD approved cases, a dual national.
