Within this team, the Voice of the Developer (VoD) program is dedicated to capturing, analyzing, and amplifying developer feedback and partnering with leaders, internal tooling teams, and passionate engineers to create a best-in-class developer experience at Toast.

Ready to make a direct impact on the developer experience at Toast? We are seeking a highly motivated Program Manager to join our Technology Enablement team and play a key role in the Voice of the Developer (VoD) program. You will be responsible for the day-to-day execution and operational excellence of key VoD mechanisms, ensuring seamless feedback loops and helping drive impactful improvements based on developer insights. This role leverages DX, a cutting-edge Developer Experience Intelligence platform, to capture feedback and metrics; you will work with engineering managers, leaders, and teams to enable their usage of this tool and ensure they’re deriving valuable insights. This role will also be heavily involved in the Toast Technology Developer Advisory Board, which brings together a highly engaged group of engineers to provide insights and recommendations on improving developer experience. About this roll* (Responsibilities) 

  • Program Logistics and Execution: Own the end-to-end logistics and execution of key VoD programs, including the DX quarterly survey, developer productivity metrics enablement, and the Toast Technology Developer Advisory Board. Ensure smooth program operations, timely delivery of initiatives, and effective communication with stakeholders.
  • VoD Platform and Tooling Enablement: Enable engineering managers, product managers, and other key stakeholders on how to leverage the VoD feedback and data to identify themes and drive continuous improvement in their teams. Develop and deliver engaging enablement resources (e.g., videos, documentation, presentations) to educate and empower stakeholders on VoD programs and tools, ensuring they have all of the developer productivity and experience metrics to successfully drive improvement. 
  • Stakeholder Management: Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across the engineering organization, including engineering managers, leadership, and software engineers. In partnership with the Principal Program Manager, work with stakeholders to understand what elements of developer experience we want to measure and gather feedback on, and help these leaders understand how to find that information in our VoD tools. Effectively communicate program updates and ensure alignment on program direction and logistics.
  • Community Building and Learning: Foster a strong sense of community for our Developer Advisory Board (DAB) and all teams across Toast Technology. Organize community events and forums to build strong relationships amongst DAB members. Identify and launch new opportunities for engineers to learn best practices and improvement approaches from each other, including forums to share knowledge and showcase new learnings.
  • Collaboration: Partner closely with the Principal VoD Program Manager to support the overall program strategy and contribute to the development and implementation of new initiatives. Collaborate effectively with other teams within Technology Strategy & Services to ensure alignment and maximize impact.
  • Operational Excellence: Continuously identify opportunities to improve and streamline processes within the VoD program, to enable even more effective and high quality feedback.
  • Training and Product Enablement: This role will also periodically work with the internal product marketing and training & development members of the Technology Enablement team to execute on enablement campaigns for key initiatives.


Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)

  • Experience: 3-5 years of proven experience in program management or a related field, preferably working with software engineers in a fast-growing technology company. Demonstrated success in managing and executing programs with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
  • Operational Mindset: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a business-value approach to decision-making. Proven ability to partner with stakeholders and customers to identify challenges and drive improvements and business impact. 
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical audiences, build a strong sense of trust and integrity with stakeholders and customers, and foster strong relationships.
  • Community Management: Some experience building and nurturing communities centered around learning and employee engagement.
  • Organization and Attention to Detail: Highly organized and detail-oriented with a strong ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Technical Acumen: Basic understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies and engineering practices. Familiarity with data analysis tools and techniques is a plus.
  • Learning Agility: A proactive and curious mindset with a willingness to learn by doing and adapt quickly in a dynamic environment.

**This is a hybrid role that requires two days in the office per week**
