They work closely with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, product managers, designers, software test engineers, and others, to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the satisfaction of customers. Performance Outcomes 

 

Program Management  

The Program Manager II will lead 1-2 programs and will work with business partners to define the features and capabilities required to make the program successful. They will start to define and manage whole programs, working through dependencies with other program and product managers, and working with a development team to deliver features. They may also manage a few projects within their swimlane to support programs led by other program managers. They are capable of working independently and not being blocked by others. The Program Manager II will start to look beyond an individual quarter, with an understanding of work that is happening several months out, and can influence work and schedules within the next year (6 -12 months).  

 

Individual tasks include:  

  • Define project scope, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders 

  • Develop project plans, schedules, and budgets, and manage project resources accordingly 

  • Participate in and distill collaborative program-level planning to track milestones and deliverables impacting multiple projects, releases, and dependencies 

  • Manage project changes and scope creep to ensure that projects remain on track and within budget  

  • Identify and mitigate project risks and issues 

  • Maintain timely and accurate project documentation, and assist in developing business cases, epics, features, stories, or other requirement documents 

  • Ensure that project deliverables meet quality standards and client expectations 

  • Review post-project data and feedback, and identify opportunities for process improvements 

  • Engage in ongoing personal study of modern technologies and industry-related knowledge and skills 

 

Engagement and Collaboration 

The Program Manager II will work intricately with their teammates and will collaborate with neighboring teams’ software engineers, product managers, and others. They will have notable influence within their team on the projects they lead, along with increasing influence in other business departments and will be seen as a partner to deliver key outcomes for their stakeholders. 

 

Engagement responsibilities include:  

  • Work closely and effectively with fellow program managers, software engineers, product managers, software test engineers, systems engineers, and others 

  • Communicate project status, risks, and issues to stakeholders on a regular basis 

  • Organize meetings and follow-ups for project collaboration or project updates/alignment  

  • Actively participate in team meetings and events 

 

Education, Knowledge, and Experience 

 

  • 2-5 years of industry experience in program management or project management, preferably in a technical/software engineering environment – or a former software engineer with 2+ years’ experience who is transitioning to program management 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Business Management, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent industry experience  

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, Teams, etc 

  • Knowledge of program management best practices, tools, and methodologies, including Agile  

  • Experience with Jira or related Agile software tools  

  • Knowledge of software development life cycle (SDLC)  

  • Attributes:  

  • Ability to successfully supervise projects and programs from inception through final deployment, including the ability to track the progress of projects and report on status 

  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment 

  • Effective written, vocal, and interpersonal communication skills 

  • Willingness to learn new approaches and technologies 

  • Ability to work well with others in a collaborative environment 

  • Attention to detail and quality 

  • Open-minded approach to new ideas and approaches 

  • Willingness to challenge others and be challenged

Physical Requirements/ Work Environment  

 

Employee must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time, with the physical ability to work at the computer or other sedentary tasks for long periods of time. Employee can conduct duties discreetly and impartially. If working remotely, employee is able to work in a space that allows them to effectively complete their job tasks, including having reliable internet connectivity and the ability to participate effectively while on phone and video calls. Employee has regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
