A Procurement Category Lead is responsible for managing a specific category of goods or services within an organization's qualifications / What You Need To Succeed (Hiring manager provides) procurement function. Their role involves strategic planning, supplier management, cost optimization, and ensuring the timely delivery of goods or services while maintaining quality standards. Here are some typical responsibilities, skills, and requirements for a Procurement Category Lead:
Responsibilities:
  • Category Strategy: Accountable for the development of category strategies that aligns with the overall company strategy. Monitor compliance and adherence to Group contracts, local agreements and all relevant Policies and Procedures.
  • Business partnering: Work closely with key stakeholders in understanding needs, objectives and priorities to optimize total cost, quality and service. Acts as a subject matter expert for his/her own category portfolio and as a business partner to identify, develop and deploy best practice procurement, using technical expertise to create value in the business
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Drive and lead cross-functional teams to prepare and manage RFX processes, negotiations, contract creation and vendor management. 
  • Supplier Management: Identify, evaluate, and manage relationships with suppliers, negotiating contracts, and ensuring supplier performance.
  • Cost Optimization: Implement cost-saving initiatives and conduct price analysis to drive down costs while maintaining quality. Perform TCO evaluations and ROI analyses.
  • Contracting: Prepare, redline and negotiate commercial contracts including master sales agreements, statements of works and amendments.
  • Reporting: Drive supplier scorecards/ratings on an ongoing basis to measure supplier performance. Accountable for financial impacts of assigned categories, including savings reporting
  • Change Management: Be an influencer and change management agent. Help developing approval workflows and procurement policies.
Qualifications:
  • Education: University Master’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Engineering, Finance, or local equivalent
  • Experience: 6+ years’ work experience handling Procurement related topics, ideally with exposure across different Procurement indirect categories (Facilities, Fleet Management, Travel, IT, Marketing, HR, Corporate Services)
  • Procurement Certifications: Recognized procurement certification such as CPSM, CPM, CIPS or equivalent is a plus
  • Software Proficiency: Proficiency in procurement software (eg: Coupa), enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and data analysis tools
  • Leadership Skills: Ability to lead and manage cross-functional teams, influence stakeholders, and drive change within the organization
  • Languages: Proficiency in English (reading, writing and speaking)
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships
  • Superior organizational skills, leading simultaneously multiple projects
  • Strong analytical, accuracy, and problem-resolution skills
