BE PART OF THE CONNECTION
As a Principal Engineer I (DOCSIS) you will be responsible for research, development, and engineering activities that maintain and enhance the company's telecommunications hardware, software, and services. You will utiize your working knowledge in various access technologies including iCMTS, DOCSIS with DAA. In addition to the above access technologies you will use your working knowledge of system architecture and testing that enable the successful creation of system requirement documents, design documents, migration strategies, strategic roadmaps, and proof of concepts. The position requires deep knowledge in RF technology and DOCSIS specifications. You will also help to manage vendors with products and service deliverables based on Charter business requirements and internal customer requests.
WHAT OUR PRINCIPAL ENGINEERS ENJOY MOST

  • Utilizing their extensive knowledge on the implementation of high split and sub split.
  • Author highly technical documents such as network design diagrams, implementation guides and field bulletins.
  • Troubleshooting various issues as it relates to our lab and operations networks.
  • Utilizing fluency in resolving bugs, defects as well as testing for innovative technology features and enhancements.
  • Being the tech lead for certification efforts on the iCMTS and DAA R-PHY. Offering technical guidance to team members and peer engineers.
  • Initiative-taking in learning new platforms to contribute to the evolution of the business.
  • Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
  • Designs, implements, monitors, enhances and troubleshoots systems in assigned areas.
  • Analyzes and revises existing system logic difficulties and documentation as necessary.
  • Tests and reviews system designs.
  • Provides Engineering Technical support and guidance to regional personnel and ensure all technical integration, changes, standards and documentation are met.
  • Mentors and guides the work of technical staff. Reviews work plans and designs and advises on improvements.
  • Adheres to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable.
  • Knows, understands and follows company policy.
  • Performs other duties as requested by manager.


WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO SPECTRUM
Required Qualifications

  • Experience:
    • Engineering work experience - 5+ years
  • Education: Masters or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field or related work experience
  • Technical skills:
    • Basic knowledge of related industry specifications and standards IEEE, ANSI, Fiber (Multimode, Single mode, UTP, etc.), Bridging, Switching, Routing, Ethernet and Transport technologies and protocols
    • Basic knowledge in network design, network architecture, protocols and network topology
    • Basic knowledge in TCP/IP and the OSI Model
    • Basic knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support the current operations.
    • Basic knowledge of network devices and basic network appliances Basic knowledge of network designing software, such as Visio
  • Skills:
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with all levels of business users in a professional manner.
    • Extensive experience with collaborating and building team consensus when interacting with both the leadership and the implementation teams.
  • Abilities:
    • Ability to read, write and speak the English language
    • Ability to use personal computer and software applications
    • Ability to perform duties in a very fast pace environment and ability to learn new technology quickly
  • Travel Ability: Office environment
  • Schedule:
    • Full time
    • This position is eligible to work in a hybrid work model (combination of in-office and remote days


Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of company products and services
  • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE)
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
  • DOCSIS Engineering Professional (DEP)
  • Industry and vendor specific certifications and training preferred (Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent, etc.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field or related work experience

The base pay for this position generally is between
$110,800.00 and $196,400.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
