ROLE SUMMARY
Alston & Bird is seeking a dynamic, engaged, self-starter for the position of Policy Analyst in our Washington, D.C. office. This is a high impact position requiring contact with clients, congressional offices, lawyers, and staff at all levels of the firm. This individual will report to the Leader of our Public Policy team, Tim Trysla. This individual will support legislative and regulatory policy analysis and advocacy priorities of clients and coordinate client events for the policy group.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO
- Attending congressional hearings, federal agency sessions and other health-related events and drafting topline summary reports.
- Tracking legislative and regulatory activity.
- Scheduling, coordinating and staffing lobbying activity (e.g., client congressional appointments, client lobby days).
- Preparing advocacy materials and other written documents.
- Direct contact and interaction with clients.
SKILLS NEEDED TO BE SUCESSFUL
- Strong writing skills, including excellent self-editing and attention to spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships throughout the policy group, with clients, and with Congressional staff.
- Understanding of the federal legislative process and attention to current congressional issues.
- Familiarity with the federal regulatory process, comment periods, and federal agency organizational charts.
- Ability to accurately and quickly draft and edit written materials and to work under pressure.
- Ability to prioritize and flexibility to complete projects in a timely manner.
- Proven keen attention to detail.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Preferred but not required - two years of experience in government and/or government relations, preferably in a Congressional office, federal agency, or consulting firm.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Demonstrated ability to organize information and projects successfully.
- Proven record of strong attention to accuracy and detail.
The salary range for this position in Washington D.C. is $80,000 - $90,000 and represents the firm’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual salary offered will be dependent on various factors, including but not limited to, the candidate's experience, education, relevant certifications, geographic location, market demands, and specific business needs. Generally, candidates are considered for the higher end of the salary range when they bring the requisite level of experience and expertise to the role.
