Partner 14, Content Project Manager, Venture Fund

Founded in Silicon Valley in 2009 by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, Andreessen Horowitz (aka a16z) is a venture capital firm that backs bold entrepreneurs building the future through technology. We are stage agnostic. We invest in seed to venture to growth-stage technology companies, across AI, bio + healthcare, consumer, crypto, enterprise, fintech, games, and companies building toward American dynamism. a16z has $44B in assets under management across multiple funds.

We’ve established a team that is defined by respect for the entrepreneur and the company-building process; we know what it’s like to be in the founder’s shoes. We’ve invested in companies like Affirm, Airbnb, Coinbase, Databricks, Devoted Health, Insitro, Figma, GitHub, Instacart, OpenSea, Roblox, Stripe, and Substack. Our team is at the forefront of new technology, helping founders and their companies impact and change the world.

The Role

The a16z Early Stage Venture (ESV) Programs team builds products and programs for a16z founders and executives. We help our portfolio leaders build durable, high growth companies with products and programs such as a library, an event series, a monthly newsletter, mailing lists, Slack groups, a directory of curated offers, and more.

We’re seeking a Content Operations Partner who is passionate about defining and running our workflow for publishing and updating documents, audio/video recordings, vendor recommendations, and offers from companies who sell to startups. Our portfolio company founders and executives use these resources to help them build great companies.

While the role is mostly about project management, we want to make sure founders and the leaders they hire are aware of new and evergreen content we’re publishing so we want people with a keen marketing and communication sense to get the word out there. We are particularly excited about candidates who want to bring their editorial sense to make sure our content is relevant, timely, at the right level of detail, and consistent.

This person will help define, continuously improve, and implement our editorial workflow by:

  • Tracking founder and executive needs to drive our strategy for future content
  • Managing the pipeline of publications
  • Working with subject matter experts to create and publish new content as well as keep existing content current
  • Coordinating deliverables to help our experts understand and hit deadlines
  • Deriving business insight from library analytics to help inform future content
  • Marketing the library content to its core audience so they are aware of new and evergreen content
  • Defining, enforcing, and continuously enhancing our style guide so that library content is consistently useful, while allowing for individual author voices to shine through
  • A keen editorial sense: this is the “core” part of the job that helps us maintain a library of relevant, clear, actionable content that serves the needs of the readers

To join our team, you should be excited to:

  • Maintain, streamline, and communicate the content pipeline, calendars and project plans, including workback schedules
  • Be a system thinker, always thinking about (and improving) the overall people, process, and technology involved in our operations
  • Work daily in our content management systems to add/remove users, create, publish, and update documents, manage revisions, view analytics
  • Work effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Share resources that founders and their teams should be using

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in project management, content editing, and/or a related field, with operational experience that spans internal and external contributors and agencies
  • Exceptional communication (both verbal and written), interpersonal, and presentation skills, with a focus on detail
  • Proven success in delivering high-quality and organized projects on time with high attention to detail
  • Ability to be a self-starter, work autonomously, juggle multiple deadlines across disparate workstreams, prioritize competing tasks, and get things done efficiently
  • Easily builds rapport and trust with others and have a collaborative attitude with a team-first approach
  • High professionalism and EQ; low ego along with an ability to collaborate effectively and cross-functionally with multiple teams across the firm
  • Comfortable with a wide variety of software including Google Drive, Slack, Salesforce, and content management systems (we use Document360)
  • An owner-operator mindset: we want people to bring a sense of radical ownership to the library, laser focused on serving the needs of our founders and their leaders

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $108,000 - $126,000, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.

This role is eligible to participate in the a16z Carry program and various discretionary bonus programs as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K plan, vacation, and sick leave.
