Position Overview: As an Operative Buyer in the procurement department of the mechanical engineering industry, your main responsibility is to manage and optimize the procurement process for non-product-related components, materials, and services in mechanical engineering. You play a crucial role in ensuring the availability of high-quality products while maintaining cost efficiency and compliance with procurement policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Procurement Strategy and Planning:

   - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop procurement strategies aligned with business objectives.

   - Analyze market trends, assess supplier capabilities, and identify cost-saving opportunities.

  

2. Supplier Management:

   - Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers based on their capabilities, quality standards, and cost competitiveness.

   - Negotiate contracts, terms, and conditions to secure favorable pricing, delivery schedules, and contractual obligations.

   - Maintain strong relationships with suppliers, resolve any issues or disputes, and monitor supplier performance regularly.

  

3. Purchase Order Processing:

   - Create and process purchase orders accurately and efficiently, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.

   - Collaborate with internal stakeholders to determine precise specifications, quantities, and delivery requirements.

   - Monitor order status, track shipments, and address any delays or discrepancies to ensure on-time delivery.

  

4. Cost Management:

   - Conduct price and cost analysis to optimize procurement decisions and achieve cost savings.

   - Implement cost reduction initiatives, such as value engineering, competitive bidding, and supplier negotiation.

   - Monitor and control procurement expenditures within budgetary limits and report any significant deviations.

  

5. Quality Assurance:

   - Collaborate with quality assurance teams to establish and maintain quality standards for purchased components.

   - Conduct supplier audits and evaluations to ensure compliance with quality requirements.

   - Address quality issues promptly, coordinating with suppliers and internal stakeholders to implement corrective actions.

  

6. Documentation and Reporting:

   - Maintain accurate procurement records, including purchase orders, contracts, invoices, and correspondence.

   - Generate reports on procurement activities, supplier performance, cost savings, and other relevant metrics.

   - Provide regular updates to management, highlighting key achievements, challenges, and recommendations.

Qualifications and skills:

1. Education and Knowledge:

- Completed vocational training or degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or a related field.

- Solid knowledge of procurement processes, contract management, and supplier relationships.

- Understanding of the specific requirements and materials in the mechanical engineering industry.

- SAP, local regulations and familiar with mechanical engineering products.

  

2. Professional Experience:

- Experience in operational procurement, preferably in the mechanical engineering industry or a similar technical environment.

- Knowledge of indirect materials and their procurement methods.

- Demonstrated success in managing and optimizing the procurement process for indirect materials.

  

3. Communication and Negotiation Skills:

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with internal stakeholders and suppliers.

- Ability to identify needs, make inquiries, and negotiate prices, terms, and delivery times.

- Knowledge of contract negotiations and contract management.

  

4. Analytical Skills:

- Strong analytical skills for evaluating offers, conducting price comparisons, and assessing supplier performance.

- Ability to analyze procurement data, monitor costs, and generate reports.

- Understanding of procurement metrics and KPIs for performance measurement.

  

5. Organizational and Time Management Skills:

- Strong organizational skills to efficiently plan the procurement process, track orders, and meet delivery deadlines.

- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize, and meet deadlines.

- Accuracy and attention to detail in documenting orders, contracts, and other procurement-related documents.

  

6. Team Orientation and Collaboration:

- Ability to work in a team and collaborate effectively with internal departments such as Engineering, Finance, and Production.

- Willingness to collaborate with suppliers to ensure smooth material supply.

- Solution-oriented mindset and the Ability to find creative solutions to problems.
