Under limited supervision, the position is responsible to provide legal direction/discretion to Research Team colleagues for multiple states on Levies, Garnishments, Subpoenas, Citations, and any other legal type request or processes to mitigate and manage regulatory and compliance risks. Will serve as the SME of legal documentation, working with complex legal documents related to any incoming legal file and is responsible for making legal decisions and/or exceptions. In addition, the position is accountable for daily work/task management and communicating SLA goals and expectations to the Research team. The Research Team Lead needs to respond to inquiries using the highest level of professionalism which includes the ability and authority to make timely decisions that are exceptions to policy in escalated or special situations. Provide legal expertise, leadership, and mentoring to the team, including training and insight when new legal documentation or processes need to be activated. Assist management in handling conflict resolution and motivation of staff. Team Lead input is weighed heavily into colleague's performance management review.

Job Accountabilities

• Provide work direction to the operating unit in daily activities, while helping to maintain an efficient operating team. Duties may include: reviewing, prioritizing, and distributing daily work to meet deadlines and goals; monitoring work in progress making adjustments as needed; giving feedback and training to staff; addressing scheduling issues, including absences and tardiness; giving input to supervisors on staff performance; representing unit at meetings.
• Responsible for providing correct legal direction according to state(s) statutes and/or current policies and procedures when resolving processing situations and override policy when necessary to ensure customer satisfaction while still mitigating legal risk to the company.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on Legal Documentation for multiple states.
• Demonstrate ability to quickly change one’s approach to a situation and adjust to constraints or multiple demands. Ability to incorporate product, service and procedure changes communicated through a variety of mediums into everyday working procedures. Possess the aptitude to learn and navigate comfortably in an ever-changing technical systems environment.
• Analyze and resolve issues of a more complex or legal nature by utilizing advanced problem-solving skills and information from multiple sources. Research and provide solutions.

• Monitor daily production ensuring staff is at the right place at the right time to meet overall daily service level goals.

• Communicate solutions and coordinate with other internal departments to ensure all avenues of research are covered.

• Communicate with government agencies and outside counsel when necessary.

• Keep SOP updated for procedural changes or updates, including all legal amendments and changes that affect the daily processing within the Research department.

Required Work Experience:

Operations or office experience providing work direction and leadership

3-5 years of experience

Paralegal experience in multi-state business model

0-2 years of experience

Required Education:

Associate's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
