The role:

An opportunity has arisen within the DXC Custom Applications Service Line to join an OpenShift support team. The team provides support to several business-critical systems and application service platforms for a UK-based blue-chip client within the Utility sector.

This role will be home-based, working Monday – Friday office hours with a requirement to provide on-call support and the potential for occasional out-of-hours overtime. The successful candidate will be a UK national or be able to demonstrate the right to work within the UK and must be based within the UK.

Responsibilities:

Application Management:

  • Assist in the day-to-day management and minor enhancements of our OpenShift and ElasticSearch clusters.

  • Support the lifecycle of OpenShift and ElasticSearch, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and applying changes.

  • Contribute to the transition and transformation efforts related to our OpenShift and ElasticSearch environment.

Service Management:

  • Follow established operational policies and processes to ensure service delivery meets quality standards and service level agreements.

  • Support service improvement programs and contribute to enhancing customer satisfaction.

  • Work with the Service Desk to resolve OpenShift and Elasticsearch incidents/problems.

  • Follow Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) best practices

Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with team members, clients, and internal stakeholders.

  • Assist in managing technical/service relationships with vendors and internal teams.

  • Contribute to maintaining good customer relations.

  • Technical Knowledge: Apply technical and business knowledge to solve OpenShift and ElasticSearch issues that are critical or high-risk. Independently integrate technical knowledge and business understanding to create superior solutions for the company and for customers.

  • Incident Management: Resolve single and cross-technology OpenShift and ElasticSearch incidents independently. Document known errors and workarounds. Work with team members, delivery centres, and other company organisations to resolve unusually complex or cross-technology incidents.

  • Escalation Management: Identify, manage, and lead escalations via established processes.

  • Problem Management: Proactively and reactively look for solutions to prevent problems from occurring in team/technology area.

  • Change Management/Implementation: Independently review, implement, and verify changes/solutions of high complexity and risk to meet customer needs. May lead or participate in a Change Advisory Board.

  • Configuration Management: Oversee configuration management processes, resolve issues, and implement processes to improve efficiencies.

  • Teamwork: Work as part of a multi-functional team. Lead teams that address operational processes and policies in the work area. Seen as a key member of the team and may mentor less experienced team members within the team in one or more technical/operational policies/standards or business areas. Is a trusted advisor inside and outside the team.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT Service Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field is advantageous but not required; relevant IT industry experience is a must.

  • Strong understanding of OpenShift.

  • Strong understanding of Elastic Stack (Kibana/ElasticSearch/Beats).

  • Experience working in a UNIX-based operating system.

  • Knowledge of Red Hat OpenShift/ElasticSearch.

  • Experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration.

  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines.

  • Familiarity with ITIL foundation-level certification.

  • Knowledge of Dynatrace.

  • Knowledge of Ansible

  • Knowledge of Harbor

  • Knowledge of Docker

  • Knowledge of ISO20000.

  • Training and knowledge transfer will be provided in the client-specific environment setup.
