Job Description
Well is looking for a creative and ambitious reporter to produce outstanding journalism that will help Times readers live healthier lives. The Well desk offers science-based guidance on a range of topics including mental and physical health, exercise, nutrition, relationships, and wellness trends. You'll cover news and service in health and wellness, and guide readers as they make decisions about their mental and physical health. You'll write traditional news stories, service, explainers, visual pieces, trend stories, and enterprise.
You should be able to connect the dots and spot news and trends before our competitors get to them. You should be truly passionate about health and wellness coverage. You should have a laundry list of story ideas, a track record of breaking news and the desire to be the go-to source for a health-obsessed audience.
This role requires precision, attention to detail, understanding of deadlines, and the ability to work with a team, including close partnerships with editors on the desk.
This is a hybrid position based in New York City and includes regular attendance in the office each week per your departmental guidance.
Responsibilities:

Regularly pitching, reporting and writing news and trend stories about health and wellness

Staying ahead of the news, delivering smart, quick-turn stories and scoops about timely issues

Keeping close tabs on online conversations about health and wellness, and identifying notable new trends

Reviewing the latest health research to conceive of fresh and compelling story ideas

Developing stories that include a wide range of voices and perspectives

Collaborating with visual editors to tell stories in creative ways

Adhering to the Times’s editorial standards

Demonstrating support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world

Basic Qualifications:

5 + years as a digital lifestyle and/or health science reporter

Proven track record of producing best in class health journalism

Experience reporting and writing in a variety of story forms
Preferred Qualifications:

Passion about health, wellness, news and service journalism
This position is represented by the NewsGuild of NY.
The annual base pay salary for this role is between $111,049.64 and $125,000.00.
