Background
At New Business Audio we develop IP Audio devices. We also develop an audio distribution system where audio content can be configured for synchronized playback in a group of speakers. Furthermore, we also prioritize work to make our systems secure. However, this often comes with a cost of added layers of complexity, a cost paid by our customers. With this thesis we want to explore ways to remove this complexity while still maintaining the same level of security. This to enable a secure and easy way for a customer without much experience with certificates to establish initial trust between devices owned by the same customer on an untrusted network without access to the internet.
Goals
Develop a straightforward and secure offline method for deploying certificates in zero trust networks, enabling seamless out-of-the-box security.
Key questions could be, but not limited to:
- How can we design a certificate deployment process that is simple yet secure?
- What techniques and / or protocols can be leveraged to ensure secure certificate provisioning?
Educational background
Master’s student in computer science engineering or similar.
Useful skills
Experience with development on Linux, C, security, embedded systems
