Overview of the Role 

The role is an exciting opportunity for someone who is looking to further develop their career in Marketing & Communications utilizing a spectrum of marketing and public relations activities. Based in Nuveen’s Tokyo office, this role will be supporting all marketing initiatives for Nuveen’s Japan business and investments teams, working closely with Marketing team in Asia Pacific, as well as the Global Client Group (GCG) and investment teams locally in Japan. 

In addition, the role will be responsible for implementing the media relations activity for Japan in alignment with the global media relations strategy, and co-ordination of the local PR agency.

The candidate will take on a support role within Nuveen’s Asia marketing and global communications teams, working closely with team members in Asia Pacific and London offices, as well as the US marketing teams to leverage existing product material and strategic content, as well as ensure alignment on global corporate messaging and campaigns.. 

The role requires generalist marketing and communications knowledge as well as capabilities to review, create and edit Japanese translations from global/regional English content.


Main Duties and Responsibilities 

• With guidance from APAC Marketing team and the Japan business, implement marketing plans to support the Japan business.

• Leverage existing collateral suite to translate and maintain bespoke local and product collateral as required, ensuring materials are aligned with the business’ Japan strategy and objectives across all APAC. Coordinate required legal and compliance approvals of all marketing materials; maintain central file of all approvals.

• Ensure all marketing initiatives align with capital raising and business priorities and reflect corporate themes stemming from corporate/capital raise/thought leadership/global positioning campaigns.

• Support brand awareness opportunities for business including roll-out of advertising campaigns, events, sponsorship and advertorials.

• Update and maintain Japan website, working closely with the web team. 

• Provide reporting and analysis of marketing programmes.
• Develop strategic media plan and oversee implementation via local PR agency in Japan. Media relations will encompass activity stemming from transactional news, key people news, fund and capital raise activity, thought leadership, product marketing campaigns and wider corporate communications strategy.
• Maintain close co-ordination with the firm’s global PR team to ensure alignment on global corporate messaging and campaigns. 


Technical Skills & Qualifications Required

• 5+ years marketing and communications experience; 7+ years preferred
• University degree preferred
• Qualification in Marketing or Communications preferred
• Experience working in asset management or financial services industries
• Understanding of Japanese and global financial media
• Fluent or native in Japanese. Strong English communications skills 
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products, particularly PowerPoint, essential.

• Ability to assess and interpret complex information and synthesize key messages visually and verbally into marketing documents and other written materials
• Developed interpersonal skills including a proactive approach to resolving conflicts/ overcoming inefficiencies 
• Able to think independently and challenge/escalate issues in an appropriate manner 


Preferred Skills
• Knowledge of any of the following (or related marketing platforms): Pardot, Seismic, Percolate, Cvent, Thirdlight, AdMaster, InDesign
• Cross border and multi-lingual experience/skills
