Consider this opportunity if you see yourself:  Managing, mentoring, and training a team of project controls professionals responsible for the scheduling, cost management, document control, and contract administration of strategic projects.

What you will do:

  • Overall responsible for all activities related to the project control functions including planning and scheduling, and for ensuring that project control policies and procedures are followed.

  • Develop schedules in conjunction with the project management and construction management teams and applies the project control systems to be used for monitoring, trending, and predicting work progress.

  • Monitors, reviews and analyzes project schedules and project progress. Alerts the project management team to existing or potential deviations from approved project targets along with providing recommended corrective actions.

  • Prepares project control reports for the project director and/or construction manager as required. Attends planning, scheduling, progress, and cost review meetings as appropriate, taking the lead in presentations, explanations, and discussions on topics related to project controls.

  • Coordinates work breakdown structure development for all levels of projects; establish standards for measurements that all projects should adhere to and establish progress measurement methods for all levels of project.

  • Responsible for all communications related to project controls. This includes the development and determination of format, frequency, material and audience of the communications. This may include reporting project progress, problems/risks and recommendations. Responsible for communicating with the project sponsor, project customers and other key stakeholders of projects including corporate 10K/10Q reporting.

  • Maintains Construction Reporting Information System (CRIS) database, including department Earned Value and Safety reporting data.

  • Reviews contractor change requests for cost and schedule impact; oversees the performance of quantity take-offs for work installed.

  • Develop and maintain contractual requirements relating to Project Controls, reporting, and document control. This includes participating in both contract development and contract negotiations.

  • Provide oversight to the document control effort and the use of Unifier in regards to document management processes.

  • Provide oversight to the contract administration team assigned to support project managers in their effort to administer the contract terms during agreement development and execution.

  • Performs all management duties including, but not limited to, hiring, performance reviews, coordinating and scheduling work, salary recommendations, discipline, ensure employees report to work fit for duty, leadership, grievance resolution, coaching & counseling, models Alliant Energy’s Core Values at all times.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred

Required Experience

  • 7 years of related experience.

  • 3 years supervisory experience or equivalent.

Preferred Experience

  • Demonstrated project controls experience in generating station construction.

  • Experience in determining and evaluating progress in accordance with a Schedule of Values.

  • Demonstrated experience with Primavera and familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning systems (PeopleSoft), Cognos, and Unifier.

  • This job is covered by the Department of Transportation regulations on drug and alcohol testing (CFR 49, Parts 40 and 199), and is subject to drug testing according to said regulations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • General knowledge of electric, gas or steam generating operating practices, construction standards, work methods, equipment, maintenance practices, regulatory compliance and/or materials preferred.

  • Demonstrated understanding of multiple contracting types including Lump Sum, Time and Material, Unit Price, Target Price, Cost Plus, etc.

  • Proven project management skills, including experience in task identification, resource management, project tracking, financial tracking and forecasting.

  • Demonstrated effective leadership skills.

  • Demonstrated financial skills such as budgeting and basic accounting.

  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).

  • Ability to work in a diverse work environment.

Pay Range:

$115,000 - $160,000

This position is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position, experience, skill set, internal pay equity and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
