About the Role: Legal Counsel - Market Intelligence

The Team: The Legal Team provides day-to-day legal support for the various shared services within S&P as well as commercial legal support for S&P’s Market Intelligence (financial services) group. We are a highly trusted and dynamic team that works in close partnership with the business to help drive maximum results.

Responsibilities and Impact:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced commercial lawyer with knowledge and experience of data licensing. The ideal candidate will support our customers in licensing data and technology-related solutions, and will have a deep understanding of the legal and regulatory frameworks surrounding services and solutions in the financial services sector.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice and support on a broad range of data and technology-related services, commencing with complex data licensing.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents related to the above services.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including data protection and intellectual property laws.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, sales, and compliance, to align legal strategies with business objectives.

  • Stay updated on industry trends, legal developments, and regulatory changes that may impact services.

  • Assist in dispute resolution and manage any legal issues that may arise in the course of business operations.

What We’re Looking For:

Basic Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years' experience as a practicing lawyer/legal counsel with commercial, contracts, contractual, and general legal experience from a law firm or in an in-house legal environment

  • Experience in negotiating and drafting commercial and other business-to-business data agreements, including subscription-based licenses

  • Knowledge of data licensing, intellectual property, and commercial contract law

  • Fluent English

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

  • Excellent communication and drafting skills.

  • Results-driven

  • Value making an impact to drive successful win-win negotiations in a collaborative work environment.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to anticipate problems and find creative solutions

  • Proven ability to work in a dynamic environment and manage a variety of commercial transactions and special projects simultaneously

  • Experience with engineering, technology, or financial companies is a plus

  • Proactive, enthusiastic, self-motivated team player

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Eager to learn
