Job Summary

The Lead Systems Engineer’s primary role is to lead Japan Level 4 certification activities, including regulation analysis, interaction with government regulatory bodies, working with consultancy, and negotiation with government officials and working group members, to have May Mobility’s autonomous driving system certified to operate in Japan. The engineer will also work closely with the systems engineering, safety, and product team in the US to ensure that the system complies with the regulations.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead Level 4 certification activities in Japan, including but not limited to:
    • Regulatory requirement analysis
    • Working with the US systems engineering, safety, and product team to create system requirements and development schedules
    • Negotiation with government officials
    • Representing May Mobility in the government committee regarding Level 4 certification
    • Communication with certification test authority, e.g. JARI
  • Lead Japanese government relations in general
  • Work with the US team regarding automotive regulations in Japan
  • Other tasks that Japan country manager assigns

Qualifications and Experience

Required:

  • Experience of working in the automotive industry and understanding of the industry standard development process
  • Experience of working with and negotiating with government officials
  • Knowledge of Japanese automotive rules & regulations
  • Excellent Japanese verbal and written communication skills
  • Business level English verbal and written communication skills

Desired:

  • Experience working at autonomous driving technology
  • Experience in systems engineering
  • Experience in project management
  • Experience working in an environment with international stakeholders

Physical Requirements

  • Standard office working conditions which includes but is not limited to:
    • Prolonged sitting
    • Prolonged standing
    • Prolonged computer use

Travel required? -  Moderate: 11%-25%
