The Business Analyst - Land will play a critical role in the development of the Land department by analyzing past, current, and future business trends. This individual will establish holistic, technical strategies and implement solutions to achieve digital, data driven business outcomes. This person will work directly with the Land department to facilitate clearly gathering and documenting requirements (functional and system) and delivering business outcomes and solutions consistent with the Company’s priorities. Works with SME’s to obtain requirements through interviews, document analysis, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, workflow analysis and use cases. Evaluates the information from those multiple sources to develop an understanding of the business requests, needs and translates them into application and operational requirements. Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to lead a project or group.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under supervision, responsibilities will include but not limited to the following essential functions:

  • Software support – 1st tier support for land users; issue identification and resolution; enhancement identification, testing, training; liaison to Accounting and IT
  • Reporting and data analytics - Understanding current reporting capabilities as well as identifying and developing additional reporting capabilities
  • Working to ensure data integrity within various systems and applications through the use of strategic reviews, critical analysis and facilitation of quality control reports and processes
  • Identifying innovative tools and processes to increase efficiency and accuracy, including participating in, or facilitating the design, development, and implementation of, such tools and business process improvements
  • Ensuring process documentation is evergreen
  • Collaborating with and responding to requests/issues from peers, other departments and externally to partners and royalty owners
  • Ensuring day-to-day tasks and responsibilities are completed accurately and in a timely manner
  • Providing excellent customer service to peers, other departments and externally to partners and royalty owners
  • Facilitating SOX and audit compliance
  • Facilitating escheat reporting and compliance
  • Assisting with special projects and other tasks as assigned

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Energy Management or Business Degree preferred; Combination of education and relevant work experience may substitute for degree.
  • Experience: 5+ years in Land or Land Administration Broad base technical skills and user knowledge of W Energy (or other land system)
  • Experience with or willingness to learn about data analytics software (i.e., PowerBI, Spotfire, etc.)
  • Experience with, or willingness to learn about, data extraction, data automation, artificial intelligence, and machine learning (experience with TRDI preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required with emphasis in Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams
  • Demonstrates business acumen with the ability to prioritize tasks based on value created for the company
  • Capable of quickly solving complex problems through analytical and process oriented logic
  • Ability to identify, design, implement and adapt to new technologies, workflows and processes
  • Action and goal oriented with a strong sense of initiative, motivation, urgency and drive
  • Recognizes value in and seeks opportunities for continued self-development
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to effectively communicate and maintain effective relationships with all levels within the organization
  • Ability to successfully execute a project from start to finish on or before deadlines with limited supervision and/or instruction

COMPENSATION:

Salary is commensurate with experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is normally performed in a climate-controlled environment, where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes and gases is very limited. Noise level is moderate and includes sounds of a normal office environment.  No environmental hazards are encountered in performance of normal job duties.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work normally requires finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination to operate computer keyboard at moderate skill level. Work may require occasional pushing, pulling, or carrying 20-pound objects such as files, documents, boxes, etc. Work involves sitting most of the time but may involve standing and walking for brief periods. Travel to other office sites/locations is required occasionally.
