DevOps / Site Reliability Tech Lead - Hybrid SEA or ATL

This position is a hybrid role requiring employees to work from our headquarters location in Seattle, WA every Tuesday and Wednesday, and remote all other days.

Do you like designing and building Kubernetes with scalability, security and observability at its core? If so, Redfin is in the process of building a robust Kubernetes platform to host all of our isolated services. Your leadership will be key in our ability to successfully scale Kubernetes to serve upwards of 50M monthly visitors.

As a DevOps / Site Reliability Tech Lead with a focus on Kubernetes on our cloud compute team, you will help us to architect and build a platform that scales, while ensuring a secure, cost effective and reliable ecosystem. The Role

• You will evolve the Kubernetes platform to support service isolation at Redfin. You’ll drive the next evolution of the platform where all Redfin services are coalescing.

• You will define the next level of maturity for our platform as it grows. Model how we’ll stay ahead of capacity and growth demands and ensure observability is core to our platform in a cost effective way.

• You will drive discussions and build consensus of how best to isolate our applications in a scalable, secure and robust architecture.

• You will aim to automate everything, nothing is handcrafted, infrastructure as code is your nature

• You will identify trends happening elsewhere in the industry and investigate how to apply them to the team or Redfin as a whole

• You will improve those around you by driving team efficiency improvements, mentoring teammates to strengthen individual skills and share your learnings

• You will help drive our mission to radically change the way people make one of the biggest decisions of their lives.

About You

• You have 8+ years of experience in Software or Systems Development

• You have expertise in designing, analyzing and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.

• You have the ability to lead complex technical discussions with a variety of audiences, including Software and Systems Engineers, and Senior Management

• You have 2+ years experience running Kubernetes clusters in large-scale production environments

• You have 2+ Years experience with cloud providers (AWS, GCP, or Azure)

• You have experience with CloudFormation or Terraform

• You have expert level development skills in at least one language (e.g. Python, Java)

• You are a thought leader able to identify solutions to difficult problems and lead these solutions to implementation

• You are are natural mentor who can coach and guide more junior members of the team

• You have the ability to consult with other teams on system design and capacity planning

• You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent work experience

• You are able to work in an on-call rotation supporting both Kubernetes and other Redfin infrastructure.  On-call expectation will be one week every 4-5 weeks.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

• Kubernetes Service Mesh experience

• Networking knowledge in distributed systems for on-prem and cloud

• Experience in web application, network, or operating system security

The compensation information below is provided in compliance with all applicable disclosure requirements.

Base Pay Range: $172,400.00 - 236,500.00. Actual base pay will depend on varying circumstances, including the position, location, individual qualifications, market finances, and other operational business needs. Depending on the position, compensation may also include commissions, bonuses, and equity. Potential for quarterly bonuses based on company performance. Potential for merit increases and stock grants based on performance.
