About the Role
We invite you to join our team as a Kubernetes Operator. In this role, you will focus on ensuring security, performance, and compliance while managing production workloads. As part of our operations team, you will be responsible for maintaining the uptime and operability of workloads for various customers, ensuring their solutions run securely and can scale.
You will work with a scalable Kubernetes setup, enabling stakeholders to deliver high-performing, secure, and reliable solutions 24/7/365. Your experience in monitoring and performance will be invaluable as you collaborate with a highly skilled team of operators. You will also conduct deep-dive investigations into performance issues within Kubernetes environments, working closely with other teams and product units to resolve challenges.
We are looking for someone with a growth mindset who is a team player, self-driven, who also from time to time can independently and is curious. You should possess an investigative attitude, be able to manage your own time effectively, and be willing to deep dive into complex issues. Understanding that some aspects are governed by corporate policies is essential, as is a commitment to delivering high-quality products and services.
About Our Team
You will be part of a world-class team with over 10 years of experience in managing production workloads in the public domain. Joining the Operations team, which is part of the newly established Cloud and SaaS unit, you will support various business units in accelerating their cloud journey efficiently and in a scalable manner. Our Cloud and SaaS unit consists of two teams—Operations and Platform & Enablement —boasting over 200 years of collective cloud and SaaS experience.
Our team comprises highly skilled professionals who have worked with scalable infrastructure and Azure for the last decade, serving production workloads. With a strong focus on compliance and security, we have developed a self-service solution for legacy software, enabling business units to deploy new software versions efficiently and with a low error rate.
Key Responsibilities
As the Kubernetes Operator, your key responsibilities will include:
- Application deployment and management.
- Cluster monitoring and troubleshooting.
- Infrastructure provisioning and management.
- Security and access control.
- Automation and CI/CD integration.
- Performance optimization.
- Documentation and knowledge sharing.
- Ensuring security and privacy.
- Maintaining high levels of redundancy and disaster recovery.
- Participating in security reviews and assessments of the platforms.
- Being part of a 24/7/365 on-call rotation - it’s not expected it will happen from day 1 but once you are ready
Requirements
We seek candidates who possess:

Strong Kubernetes fundamentals: A deep understanding of Kubernetes concepts (pods, deployments, services, namespaces, etc.) and core components (kubelet, controller-manager, scheduler).

Experience with containerization: Hands-on experience with containerization technologies like Docker and container orchestration platforms, preferably Kubernetes.

Scripting and automation: Proficiency in scripting languages like Python, Go, or Bash for automating tasks and managing Kubernetes resources.

Cloud platform expertise in Azure: Strong knowledge of Azure and its Kubernetes offerings, particularly AKS.

Networking and security: Understanding of networking concepts (e.g., network policies, service meshes) and security best practices for Kubernetes environments (RBAC, security contexts).

Monitoring and troubleshooting: Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana) and troubleshooting Kubernetes clusters.

CI/CD integration: Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and integrating Kubernetes into those pipelines for automated deployments and releases.

Problem-solving and debugging: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve complex issues within the Kubernetes environment.

Communication and collaboration: Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with development, infrastructure, and other teams.

Continuous learning: A strong desire to learn and adapt to new technologies and best practices within the rapidly evolving Kubernetes ecosystem.
Moreover, you may have:

Practical and professional experience with Kubernetes

Kubernetes certification(s)

Experience developing and deploying custom Kubernetes Operators using Go or other suitable languages

Mastery of advanced Kubernetes concepts like StatefulSets, Jobs, CronJobs, DaemonSets, and network policies.

Experience with service meshes like Istio or Linkerd.

Proven ability to optimize Kubernetes cluster performance, including resource allocation, scheduling, and network configuration

Experience with tools like kube-bench and profiling tools for performance analysis.

In-depth knowledge of Kubernetes security best practices, including advanced RBAC, network security, and image security.

Experience with security tools and techniques for securing Kubernetes environments.

Strong understanding of cloud-native technologies beyond Kubernetes, such as service discovery, microservices architecture, and serverless computing.

Experience with tools like Helm, Kustomize, and Argo CD.
