Overview & Responsibilities
The IT Linux Engineer will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities, among others:

Architecting, implementing, and managing Linux-based systems and infrastructure, including bare-metal and virtual machines.

Adept at configuring and managing various components of Linux systems, including servers, networking, storage, and security settings.

Developing and implementing scripts and tools to automate tasks like provisioning, patching, and system monitoring.

Implementing and maintaining security measures for Linux systems, including access control, setting up firewalls, and vulnerability management.

Understanding and configuring network protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and routing.
-
Proficiency in using package managers like APT, YUM, DNF or Pacman, including dependency resolution and repository management.

Experience with configuring bootloaders like GRUB or LILO.

Familiarity with different storage technologies, including disk partitioning, RAID configurations, and file systems.

Experience with configuring and managing firewalls like iptables or nftables.

Diagnosing and resolving technical issues with Linux systems, applications and infrastructure. Ability to analyze system logs and debug issues effectively. Proficiency in using debugging tools like strace, netstat, or gdb.

Working with virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM, Docker) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).

Using scripting languages (Bash, Python, Perl) to automate tasks and develop custom solutions.

Creating and maintaining documentation for Linux systems and infrastructure.

Monitoring and analyzing system performance for speed and efficiency, identifying bottlenecks, and optimizing configurations.

Working with other IT teams and stakeholders to ensure smooth system operation.
Skills and Qualifications:

Deep knowledge of Linux operating systems: Experience with various distributions like Oracle Enterprise Linux, Red Hat, CentOS, Rocky, Debian, Unix and Solaris. Proficient with Linux command-line utilities and file systems.

Proficiency in scripting languages: Bash, Shell, Python, Perl, or other scripting languages.

Experience with virtualization technologies: VMware, KVM, Docker, or similar technologies.

Familiarity with automation tools: Ansible, Puppet, Terraform, Chef, shell scripting, or other configuration management tools.

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills: Experience in performing root cause analysis to identify and resolve complex problems.

Good communication and teamwork skills: Ability to collaborate with other IT teams and stakeholders.

Understanding of system security principles: Knowledge of user account management, access control, vulnerability management, security audits and other security best practices.
