The Owned Brands Internship at Backcountry offers hands-on experience across product design, development, and planning within the outdoor apparel industry. Working closely with the Owned Brands team, interns will contribute to seasonal trend research, product development, fabric sourcing, and sales analysis, while gaining exposure to the full apparel lifecycle—from concept to customer. This Park City-based internship is ideal for students pursuing degrees in Outdoor Product Design and Development, who are passionate about outdoor gear, detail-oriented, and eager to collaborate across departments. Interns will work one 8-hour day per week for 14 weeks starting in June and earn $18/hour.
This position will report into the Sr. Design Manager – Owned Brands
What you get to do every day:
- Collaborate with the Design team/Merch team on seasonal trend research, fabric sourcing, color palette creation, and style development. As well as line planning, competitive analysis, and visual assortment strategies
- Assist the Development team with tracking samples, managing tech packs, and maintaining product development timelines. Filing bulk submits, organizing fabric library.
- Support the Planning team by analyzing sales and inventory data, helping to identify opportunities and risks.
- Attend and contribute to cross-functional meetings, gaining insight into how teams align to bring a product from concept to customer.

- Participate in special projects and presentations that provide a comprehensive understanding of the apparel lifecycle.
What you bring to the role:
- A strong interest in the outdoor apparel industry and product development.
- Currently pursuing a degree in Outdoor Apparel Design, Merchandising, Business, or a related field.
- Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.
- Detail-oriented mindset with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with Adobe Creative Suite, 3D Design Programs or PLM systems is a plus.
- A proactive, positive attitude and a collaborative spirit.
Schedule & Location:
- One 8 hour day a week for 14 weeks at our HQ in Park City. UT
