The Smith Supply Chain Sustainability Initiative Intern will: 

Job Description: 

  • Conduct research and analyses to incorporate Environmental, Social, and Governance (“ESG”) factors across Smith’s global value chain, with particular focus on upstream and downstream load improvements (Scope 3 model development, forecasting impacts, new solutioning to support global customers, and internal corporate ESG net zero planning). 

  • Create an industry-competitive solution for Smith’s customers. 

  • Support the Sustainability Group team in assessing ESG factors related to net zero process improvements for Smith as a global, corporate entity with particular focus on developing and measuring new logistics value chain improvement and offset strategies. 

  • Monitor green scoping standards, including the audit process for Smith facilities in a rapidly changing planet. 

  • Develop analyses, reports, quantitative reporting, and strategic suggestions for various projects in support of the Sustainability Group’s activities.  

  • Help develop new business strategies for the hardware tech value chain, identifying and validating the appropriate sustainability metrics to support new business opportunities through value chain improvements, new sourcing programs, and ITAD program extensions. 

  • Make modern recommendations on Smith’s internal ITAD process and reclamation efforts.  

  • Be a thought leader by working to identify and then scope global semiconductor data for the development of programs for Smith and for various segments of Smith’s customer base. 

  • To support the above initiatives, the intern will also prepare research documents and presentations on ESG matters and assist with presentations and briefings to the Sustainability Group, upper management, and customers, as appropriate. 

 

This position will report to and collaborate with a team of senior-level executives focused on sustainability issues. The intern will also work across functional departments to support the integration of successful sustainability proposals into business operations 

 

Expectations: 

Goals and expectations during this internship are set by the collaborative team of senior-level executives focused on sustainability issues. Smith’s full-time internship program is a 10-week experience at our Headquarters in Houston, Texas, working 40 hours per week. This position is flexible for on-site, remote, or hybrid; if/when on-site, housing and transportation will be taken care of by the company.
