Automation Engineering Interns will work with a Marmon business unit or group-level engineering team and support multiple projects as noted below. This internship position will report directly to the Engineering team supervisor but will also have exposure to other teams at the business unit and/or within the group. Interns will complete a capstone project over the summer to deliver advanced, automated manufacturing technology to a Marmon manufacturing facility and present the project outcome to business leadership.
This internship will be based at one of Marmon’s 300+ manufacturing facilities in the United States, subject to the needs of the business unit. Specific geographic preferences of the applicant will be considered, but cannot be guaranteed. Likely internship locations may include (but not be limited to) the following geographic areas:
• Chicago, IL
• Atlanta, GA
• Charlotte, NC
• Detroit, MI
• Houston, TX
• Northeast Arkansas
• Central Connecticut
• Southern New Hampshire
This is a paid position that typically runs for 10-12 weeks from late May through mid-August; exact dates can be somewhat flexible based on school schedules. Certain peak periods may also provide an opportunity for overtime.
What you'll do:
- Collaborate with other team members on various engineering and systems analysis projects
- Use industrial & process engineering tools to evaluate existing and proposed new process improvement opportunities
- Use your engineering skills to specify / design / build / implement solutions in collaboration with senior engineering staff
- Work with existing manufacturing machines and equipment to optimize performance by upgrading hardware, modifying programs, etc.
- Evaluate and test new equipment to facilitate automation of manufacturing process(es); use a methodical approach to compare options in the context of the existing factory and against other factories elsewhere within Marmon
What you'll bring to the role:
- Actively pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Engineering, Science, or related field
- Rising junior or senior academic status
- Strong interest in applying engineering knowledge to practical problems
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
- Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Superb organizational skills
- Interest in technology and process improvement
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- No previous experience required
Target compensation: $22.00 - $24.00/hour
Benefits: not available in internship positions
