Company Description
Contact Energy is one of New Zealand's leading energy companies, committed to creating a sustainable energy future. We operate a diverse portfolio of power generation assets, including geothermal, hydroelectric (hydro), and thermal plants.
Our hydro plants play a crucial role in providing renewable energy to the country. The Roxburgh Dam, which has been operational since the 1950s is currently undergoing a five-year project to replace half of the 60-year-old hydropower turbines.
We also have the Clyde Dam on Lake Dunstan which is the largest concrete gravity dam in New Zealand, capable of producing 432 megawatts (MW) of power from its four turbine generator units.
We're now looking to add a new Gen Tech Assistant to the hydro whanau to help out with a variety of roles to ensure the stations keep pumping (pun intended).
Job Description
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
You'll be the go-to person for all sorts of maintenance mahi at Contact's Hydro sites (this role's based at Roxburgh but you'll need to head up to Clyde when needed). This means you'll be responsible for everything from assisting with overhauls and plant repairs to conducting inspections and cleaning or water-blasting equipment. You will also help with stores as required. The best part, though, is that you'll be operating all sorts of cool gear like cranes and forklifts, and we even had a couple of boats. Training workshops will keep you up-to-date with all the safety rules and regulations. And don't forget, you'll need to chip in with the team, helping out wherever needed and keeping an eye out for any health and safety risks.
You'll also be supervising contractors to ensure everything runs smoothly and meets the plant's operating requirements. Emergency maintenance? No worries, you'll be on it to keep the plant humming. And of course, delivering top-notch customer service to stakeholders is a must whether it's driving duties or suggesting improvements to systems and processes, you'll be a key player in keeping everything shipshape.
