Summary of the position:

The HR Business Partner (HRBP) is responsible for aligning business objectives with employees and management in designated business units. This role serves as a strategic partner and consultant to management on human resource–related issues while fostering strong relationships across the organization. The HRBP works to proactively support business goals by facilitating HR processes and policies, driving employee engagement, and promoting organizational development. The position requires business acumen, strong interpersonal skills, and a hands-on approach to solving employee relations matters.

This position is located on-site in Michigan City, Indiana.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience resolving complex employee relations issues.
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field preferred; candidates with a bachelor’s degree in another discipline and equivalent HR experience will also be considered.
  • Working knowledge of multiple HR disciplines including employee relations, performance management, compensation, diversity, leave management, employment law, and recruitment practices. 
  • Working knowledge of training and development.
  • Ability to interpret and apply employment laws and company policies effectively.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours as needed based on workload or deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification.
  • Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Experience using Workday HRIS and UKG.
  • Strong experience in training facilitation, coaching managers, and organizational planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, advise, and collaborate at all levels within the organization.
  • Background in manufacturing or industrial environments is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the HR point of contact for assigned business units; conduct regular meetings to understand needs and build relationships.
  • Consult with managers on HR-related issues, providing guidance on employee relations, organizational structure, and performance management.
  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations cases; conduct thorough investigations and recommend resolutions.
  • Analyze HR metrics and trends to develop strategic solutions, programs, and policies.
  • Facilitate and monitor employee training, including orientation and supervisory development.
  • Guide managers through performance management processes, goal setting, and development planning.
  • Advise on policy interpretation and HR compliance, partnering with legal as needed.
  • Support business unit restructuring, workforce planning, and succession planning efforts.
  • Assist in benefits administration, including employee education and change management.
  • Participate in recruitment efforts, compensation administration, and leave management as needed.
  • Promote a positive work environment by supporting employee engagement, morale, and retention initiatives.
  • Perform other HR-related duties as assigned.
