The Position:
The Histology Supervisor is responsible for the day-to day supervision and oversight of the histology lab. Responsibilities include all aspects of operations, including: training personnel, implementing workflow and software process improvements; coordination of quality assurance program; ensuring compliance with state and national regulatory agencies; and interfacing with other departments including laboratory, Pre-Analytical and the pathology, supply chain and client services. The position is responsible for maintaining efficient processes as they relate to company goals.
Tuesday-Saturday from 12:00 pm - 8:30 pm.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provide orientation and training to all histology personnel
- Evaluate and document the competency of all histology personnel
- Extensive SOP drafting experience, to include all aspects of standard histopathology
- Essential member of cross-functional team to provide user requirements and develop IT infrastructure to establish internal histology services from the ground-up
- Working under general direction to precisely and accurately conduct a variety of routine and specialized histology procedures. Researching, troubleshooting, and resolving histology related inquiries and problems within the laboratory. This position requires you to produce the highest quality of microtomy, tissue grossing, tissue processing, and H&E staining, and equipment maintenance
- Preparing microscopic slides on human tissue for research/diagnostic purposes, including processing, embedding, microtomy, and mounting to include paraffin processed tissue
- Slide organization, prepares and maintains all necessary reagents, including stains, alcohols, and paraffins according to proper specifications
- Handling and disposing of hazardous materials
- Performing routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by a pathologist(s) according to established SOP’s
- Specimen management including return of blocks/slides to client pathology labs and organization of slides retained to meet regulatory requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in science
- Certification: HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP)
- At least 7 years of experience as a histotechnician or histotechnologist sectioning paraffin-embedded tissues, with at least 2 years of supervising histology operations and people management
- Ability to confidently and rapidly cut and mount high quality tissue sections from a variety of tissue types including needle biopsies
- Maintains continuing education units required by California Department of Health Services
- Must be meticulous and detail oriented
- Demonstrated experience implementing process improvements and updating standard operating procedures
- Experience training and onboarding new team members
- Prior experience implementing digital pathology workflows is a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Repetitive movement of fingers, hands, arms and legs.
- Sitting, with occasional walking, standing, stooping and moving about.
- Exposure to general laboratory environment conditions.
The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units. Veracyte is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.

$95,000—$108,000 USD
