Build a brilliant future with Hiscox

Head of Product

I-HUB

The I-HUB is a newly created Centre of Excellence delivering new products and propositions across our Business Units, strategically positioning us at the forefront of the market. Our ambition is to maximise the leverage of our existing footprint, expand our appetite and product range and anticipate the future needs of our current and potential customers.  By 2030 the appetite expansion and product development delivered by the I-HUB will contribute more than $1bn in annual revenue.

The Role
As the Head of Product, you will play a critical role in building new products and propositions for the I-HUB division that drive growth, meet evolving customer needs and support our strategic ambitions.  You will lead a small expert team of Business Analysts and Developers building brand new products and taking existing products to new markets.  You will work in close collaboration with senior Change, IT and Underwriting professionals across all Business Units to create and coordinate the execution of our product roadmap.  Often, your team will directly build new products and deploy them into Business Units.  Alternatively, you will develop clear specifications of product design and rating and coordinate execution by local Change teams.

Products will be launched at pace and undergo frequent iteration post launch.  You will agree robust operating practices to provide initial support to Business Units and effective handover to local teams at an appropriate point of maturity.

You will identify opportunities to streamline the product development process with a bias to speed and efficiency of build.  You will create scalable, reusable product structures that minimise the need for rework within local markets.

You will act as the focal point for all I-HUB programme management activities from planning, development, launch, refinement and performance tracking.  To support this you will develop clear reporting processes that enable successes to be fully exploited and failures quickly identified and resolved.

An experienced product development professional you will have a strong track record of project and change delivery.  You will be able to bridge between customer, underwriting and technical requirements to optimise design and delivery.  You will be an experienced leader able to manage and develop business analyst and change resources and will be able to combine market insight, commercial acumen and cross functional leadership to bring new ideas to life – from concept to launch and beyond.

This role is responsible for:

  • The design and delivery of the I-HUB product roadmap
  • Building and launch of new products/propositions and extending existing products into new markets, that enhance customer experience and drive customer acquisition, retention and profitability.

  • Engaging  with internal and external stakeholders to gather insights and feedback on product concepts and prototypes.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with key partners, brokers, and distribution channels to ensure successful product rollouts.
  • Communicating product vision and strategy effectively across all levels of the organisation.
  • Tracking and analysing product performance metrics, making data-driven decisions to optimise and refine offerings.
  • Implementing continuous improvement processes based on customer feedback and market changes.
  • Ensure all new products meet regulatory standards

Candidate profile

  • Operating in a matrix environment the successful candidate will have the proven ability to use informal structures, dynamics and organisational culture to get things done. They will have a history of actively seeking input in decision making and engaging stakeholders to get to the optimal outcome for the Venture team. They will have the ability to make difficult and/or unpopular decisions that are right for the Hiscox Group, backed by strong rationale. They will be a pragmatic strategist who looks for the right business solutions utilising appropriate commercial choices. The ideal candidate will help bring a clear ‘outside in’ view of the market and challenge the Group and Business Unit management teams with commercial judgement and appropriate application.

About Hiscox

As an international specialist insurer we are far removed from the world of mass market insurance products. Instead we are selective and focus on our key areas of expertise and strength - all of which is underpinned by a culture that encourages us to challenge convention and always look for a better way of doing things.

We insure the unique and the interesting. And we search for the same when it comes to talented people. Hiscox is full of smart, reliable human beings that look out for customers and each other. We believe in doing the right thing, making good and rebuilding when things go wrong. Everyone is encouraged to think creatively, challenge the status quo and look for solutions.

Scratch beneath the surface and you will find a business that is solid, but slightly contrary. We like to do things differently and constantly seek to evolve. We might have been around for a long time (our roots go back to 1901), but we are young in many ways, ambitious and going places.

Some people might say insurance is dull, but life at Hiscox is anything but. If that sounds good to you, get in touch.

Diversity and Hybrid working

At Hiscox we care about our people. We hire the best people for the job and we’re committed to diversity and creating a truly inclusive culture, which we believe drives success.

We have also learned over the past few years that working life doesn’t always have to be in the office, and now it is safe to do so we have introduced hybrid working to encourage a healthy work life balance.

This hybrid working model is set by the team rather than the business to enable you to manage your own personal work-life balance. We see it as the best of both worlds; structure and sociability on one hand, and independence and flexibility on the other.
