APM Terminals This position ensures that all HSSE policies put in place in APM Terminals Algeciras are stringently followed. It coaches and supports Operations and Maintenance to ensure that despite operational considerations, Safety & Security are not compromised in any way.
This position is responsible for all of the policies, practices, and operations for the Safety, Health, Environmental, and Security functions.
The position manages the handling of dangerous goods & emergency situations which arise.
Member of the terminals’ leadership team.
- The incumbent is expected to provide input to the terminals business strategy within the limits of the role.
- The position will be responsible for setting and delivering HSSE objectives which are within the strategy & business plans of the Terminal.
- As tactical part of this position. The incumbent is expected to have a measurable contribution to the course of action that determines the achievement of the terminals’ Safety related KPIs
- The position is expected to follow existing procedures under certain circumstances, while in others the position is required to constantly improve & modify HSSE working methods.
- The position is often required to address problems and issues that are cross functional & can have an effect on all dimensions of the business.
- Ensures safety, health and environmental working conditions are followed at all times.
- Manages implementation of policies, procedures and systems to provide for a safe and secure business operation.
- Enforces safe working practices and ensures safety incidents are kept to a minimum.
- Drives and manages the APMT global aim to be recognized as an industry leader within the field of Safety and Security.
- Applies the overall APM Terminals standards and guidelines on HSSE.
- Represents the company with local government organizations related to HSSE in order to ensure a mutual understanding of the Company’s goals and requirements, and to work in a cooperative partnership with local resources.
- Represents the Health and Safety function in Safety Committees with the Workers Councils, engaging the representatives for their improvement ideas and support.
- Prepares facility audits to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows-up to ensure measures have been implemented.
- Coordinates studies and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies.
- Leads the accident/incident investigation and reporting.
- Ensures that all safety, security & environmental issues are managed fulfilling the requirements of all the regulations applicable by National laws.
- Ensures that all damage claims are handled, fulfilling applicable regulations requirements of national and international laws (maritime laws).
- Ensure that emergencies are handled fulfilling the requirements of the regulations applicable nationally & internationally.
- Ensure a proper functioning of the Environment Management System in accordance with the requirements of ISO 14001.
- Ensure a proper functioning of the Security Management System in accordance with the requirements of ISO 28000.
- Ensure a proper functioning of the Safety Management System in accordance with the requirements of OHSAS 18001.
- Promote the wellbeing and mental health on the individual level.
- Promote the energy efficiency by using natural resources effectively and efficiently, protecting the natural environment.
- Ensure PPE selection compliant with international standards & norms.
- Promote the use of quality management and continuous improvement best practices.
- Responsible for setting and managing the budget for the HSSE cost center.
- Build a strong team by attracting & retaining talent, leading, coaching, mentoring & supporting all direct reports, and recommend their remuneration.
- Create an environment that is supportive of learning, training and developing team’s competencies. Must be able to convey criticism in a positive or constructive way.
- Drive, recognize and reward team’s performance, providing them with guidance for further improvement.
- Encourage open dialogue and communication so that activities run consistently smoothly.
