Under the direction of Director of Fitness and Recreation, this position will focus on recreation and intramural programming at Saint Leo University, as well as the supervision of the Saint Leo University Wellness Center.

Job Description

Duties and Tasks:

  • Interview, hire and train student officials and scorekeepers for the intramural program and other recreation programming such as the lakefront and special events.

  • Conduct employee training sessions and sport specific meetings for student workers.

  • Update rules and policies for all intramural sports, including softball, volleyball, flag football, basketball, soccer, beach volleyball, kickball, dodgeball, pickleball, and tennis.

  • Research recreation programming needs of students, faculty, and staff, including long range strategic planning and providing recommendations.

  • Attend University activities and involvement fairs to promote recreation and intramural programs.

  • Create weekly schedule for federal work study employees.

  • Inspect, maintain, and keep inventory of all recreation and intramural equipment.

  • Purchase sporting goods for recreation and intramural programming as needed.

  • Work with the Assistant Director of Aquatics and Fitness on aquatics and lakefront programming. Collaborate with other departments on campus such as Residence Life, First Year Experience and Student Affairs.

  • Develop and execute a marketing plan for recreation and intramurals.

  • Provide setup and breakdown for recreation and Wellness Center Events, facility maintenance, and place work orders with Facilities Management as needed.

  • Supervise the daily operation of the Wellness Center as the Manager on duty, as scheduled.

  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge:

  • Preferred CPR/AED and First Aid Certification required or must obtain within one month of hire date.

  • Demonstrated experience in implementing policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of industry safety standards.

  • Previous Knowledge of recreation and sports is preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership, organization, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Hire, train, supervise and evaluate student workers.

  • Strong personal initiative, innovation, and self-motivation.

  • Dependable, creative thinker who is outgoing, reliable, and punctual.

Abilities:

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, nights, and

  • weekends.

  • Must be able to supervise student employees similar in age.

  • Must be able to lift objects up to 50lbs, as well as bending and reaching, which may be

  • required in some instances.

  • Exposure to sun and heat for long periods of time.

  • Ability to ability to prioritize, organize and multitask.

  • Ability and willingness to take charge and manage stress for self and others.

  • Ability to work as part of a professional team that collaborates effectively with

  • colleagues.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Must be eligible and accepted into a graduate program at Saint Leo University
