Overview:
The Technical Writer will collaborate directly with our model developers and will play a key role in creating and maintaining high-quality technical documentation and user manuals that effectively communicate complex statistical and quantitative information to our target audience in a standardized format across a range of models (CCAR/ACL/Underwriting/PPNR/Liquidity/etc). The team works directly with a wide breadth of model developers, subject matter expert and reviewers, as well as implementation, production, and business teams across numerous types of financial products and modeling techniques to gather information and ensure accuracy and clarity in the documentation. Work will entail interpretation of data analysis, technical specifications, statistical approaches, business use cases, regulatory guidelines as well as governance and internal controls to ensure production of technical documentation is of the best quality. The Technical Writer will spearhead training across employees to adopt a suite of standard documentation.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Research, organize, and interpret technical information to create and maintain technical documentation, including model development documentation, user manuals, installation guides, release notes, code documentation, and other documentation
- Partner with developers, subject matter experts, business and other colleagues to gather information and understand technical concepts
- Write and edit clear and concise content that meets the needs of the target audience, ensuring adherence to style guidelines and documentation standards
- Interview subject matter experts and technical staff to collect information, prepare written text, and coordinate layout and material organization
- Develop and maintain documentation section specific templates (data wrangling, model methodology, testing, segmentation, outcomes analysis, etc), style guides, and best practices to ensure consistency and quality across all publications
- Develop and conduct effective training sessions on documentation standards for model developers and business.
- Review existing documentation to ensure it is clear, concise, and user-friendly. Perform ongoing updates to existing documentation to ensure they remain accurate and relevant
- Ensure the proper archiving of older model documents, ensure adherence to applicable policies, procedures and controls
- Prepare a Finance Model Development newsletter biannually
- Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in technical writing
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor's degree and a minimum 7 years’ experience OR Associate's degree and a minimum 9 years’ experience in accounting, auditing, operations or financial institutions
Broad and comprehensive understanding of theories and practices in finance and accounting within the commercial banking industry
Strong understanding of financial concepts/theory and how it relates to profitability reporting
Education and Experience Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 4-6 years proven experience as a Technical Writer or in a similar role, preferably in a quantitative discipline within the banking industry
- Prior experience with Latek/Sphinx or other applications to write documentation
- Excellent writing and editing skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong ability to grasp complex technical concepts and explain them in a clear and concise manner.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance standards
- Working knowledge of model development process and statistics/quantitative discipline
- Experience with Python/SAS and other modeling software
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines. Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft PowerPoint is required
- Intermediate level of proficiency with tools such as github, dash, shiny and flask a plus.
- Familiarity with software development processes, agile methodologies, and version control systems

The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
